Hi
You speaker is dual coil one. Each coil have an impedance of 4 ohms. When these coils are connected in parallel then the ohms will be 2 ohms and in serial it will be 8 ohms. slight variations will show in digital multimeter when you measure the ohms. use the lovest ohms range in you meter to measure the coil impedance.

Will a multi meter tell me if a speaker is bad or not?

Test it with a music sourse.

When a speaker is labeled 8 ohms, it is actually a nominal reading. An ohm meter measures the resistance to direct current (DC), but music is alternating current (AC).

My speaker is rated at 8 ohms, but my ohm meter reads 5.5 ...

When i turn My Solara DSC VHF radio on it no longer beeps . I cannot hear any squelch or pick up any channels. Is this my speaker that has gone.

To test a speaker, you'll need either a digital multimeter or an analog multimeter that can read measurements of resistance (Ohms)
First isolate the speaker from the amplifier (meaning, remove the wires attached to the speaker terminals).
Set the meter to Ohms (Omega symbol).
Take the meter test leads and place each one on the speaker terminal (make sure the test leads do not touch each other)- there is no polarity to this test so it doesn't matter which test lead goes where on the speaker terminals
For an 8-Ohm rated speaker, you should get a reading of about 6-7 Ohms (approximately 15% of the speaker rating)
For a 4-Ohm speaker, around 2-3 Ohms
and for a 16-Ohm speaker, about 8-Ohms
If you can an infinite reading (make sure the test leads are not touching each other) other wise, if the test leads are not touching and you get an infinite reading, there is a short in the voice coil; speaker is defective.
OL reading on the DMM, or O Ohm resistance on analog meter, broken wire connection inside the coil= open voice coil and is defective.
If you get the proper reading on your speaker, the problem IS NOT with the speaker

How to test the mulltitester in a speaker

Hello
There are mainly two type of multimeters. The first type is analogue one, which will have a needle deflects inside its dial to show measurements, and the second one is digital, which will look like a handheld calculator, in which measurements are displayed digitally. You can read it diretly from it.I don't know which type of multimeter is you are using. If it is digital one, set it to Ohms range, and connect the tow meter probs to the two terminlas of the speaker. Before doing this, check the impedence, marked on the speaker magnet. Usually it will be marked between 4 & 8Ohms. You must get this marked Ohms measured on meter scale. For bothe type of multimeter, the proceedigns are the same. Please don't hesitate to rate this solution. OK.

I have proform smell of rubber buring when walk on

Dear Sir:

Thank you by your request, I will help you inmediately.

How to measure FUSEAND CONTINUITY A digitalmultimeter is the ideal multimeter t use to check fuses. You can test afuse using either a digital volt-ohmmeter or an analog volt-ohmmeter. Thedigital multimeter uses a LCD to indicate the condition of the fuse under testwhile an analog meter uses a traditional meter movement to indicate the fusecondition. Difficulty: EasyInstructions
Things You'll Need
  • Digital multimeter or analog multimeter
1. Usinga digital multimeter
o 1 Connectthe test leads to the volt-ohmmeter. Plug the black test leads into the blackjack marked "Com" or "Common" on the front of the meter.Plug the red test lead into the red jack marked "Volts/Ohms" on thefront of the meter. o 2 Setthe meter's function switch to "Ohms" and the range switch to the"R x 1" scale. If your digital multimeter is an auto ranging meter, you will not have a range switch. Instead, you'll have just a function switchbecause the meter will automatically select the right range for the quantitythat you are measuring. o 3 Turnoff the power and remove the fuse to be tested from the circuit. Never test afuse for continuity while it is still connected to the circuit that it is usedto protect. If the circuit still has voltage, the meter will be irreparablydamaged. If the fuse is still in the circuit when tested it is possible to geta false indication that the fuse is good if the meter gets a completed circuitthrough other circuit components. To be safe, always remove the fuse from thecircuit before testing it. o 4 Touchthe black test probe to one end of the fuse and the red test probe to the otherend of the fuse. It does not matter which probe you touch to which end becausefuses are not polarized. You are checking to see if there is continuity throughthe fuse element. A reading of approximately 0.5 on a digital meter's LCDindicates a good fuse. Most digital meters read their own internal fusesresistance, hence 0.5 Ohms and not 0.00 Ohms. LCD readout of "O.L."indicates no continuity through the fuse. The fuse is bad and needs to bereplaced.

Thank you in advance sincerely. God bless you.

Hi i have a pair of celestion k15t-200's i need to know the impedence on these bad boys also are they 200 watts max or r.m.s ? thanks

Hi, With Celestions, it will be the RMS rating. I have one of these and it has "8 Ohms" stamped on the edge of the dark grey edge of the magnet, in black ink, so barely visible. Check around the magnet for any signs of print, it may be faint. They wouldn't necessarily all be 8 ohms. An 8 ohm speaker should measure about 6ohms on a multimeter (as the rating is AC impedence and the meter measures DC resistance). A 4 ohm should measure about 3 on the meter.

Jl audio 300/4 low ohms light wont go off

If the low ohms light is on then you have your speakers wired to low. I need to know some more info like what type of speakers you have running on this amp and how many. Also was it working before and then it started doing this? Check the ohms with a volt meter if you know how, if not just get a volt/ohm meter and set it to the ohms setting and then take the positive(red probe) and touch it to the positive terminal on the speaker and then the negative(black probe) to the negative terminal and see what it reads. Make sure you check how low in ohms your amp is capable of handling. If you don't know just google the model of your amp and you will find a site that has a manual or just go to JL audios web site and you should find out there with no problem. Let me know what you find so I can assist you more if need be cause I also repair amplifires for a living and have many years experienc and I'm the cheapest amp repair business you will find any where. Good luck

How to measure watts

You need a Volt Meter and an Ohm Meter. P = VI & I = V/r, so Power = (Volt^2)/Ohms .

You can get the ohms by hooking them up to the subwoofer input wires, and you get the volts by hooking up to the amp output terminals/wires. Although, amps will put out different voltages for different frequences, this should give you ballpark estimates.

I have purchased brand new Jamo speakers A 320. Front and surround measure with ohm meter open circuit. Centre speaker Measure impedance 6 ohms. Is this a normal,i have also checked another set of the...

Most better low frequency speakers (woofers) measure about 6 ohms because the addition of crossover will bring the impedance up to 8 ohms. Even without the crossover, 6 ohms will not harm the amp or speakers

How do I test an 8-0hm speaker or horn with a digital multimeter? Help!

What? You can take a friggin multimeter, stick it across the terminals and if it does nott give you any resistance back you fryed the voice coil. If you get 0 ohms it means you fired the voice coil. If you get 4, 8, 16 ohms then your good to go.
