Make sure you are getting spark from the coil. Then connect the coil wire to the distributor. Then check a plug wire for spark by grounding it with a screw driver. If you are getting spark from the coil, but not from the distributor wire there could be a wire broke in the distributor.

you may have a safety switch that has went bad or came unhooked. unplug and test for continuity. also under the hood you will see a fuse, check to see if that has blown. if all that is good you may want to unhook the coil try to start it and see if it has fire. it is possible the coil has went bad. hope this gives you an idea where to start

What is the purpose of the coil charger

not sure what you mean by a coil charger. if you are referring to the coils under the flywheel, that is the equivalent of an alternator. the actual ignition module or coil doesn't have a charger. the alternator has nothing to do with the ignition module and the color of the fire. there is nothing wrong with an orange colored spark unless you have an HEI module at which point a special spark tester is required

I have a craftsman riding mower that will not start. Model No.917258473 Serial No.062597C003426 It did try to fire over before it did nothing,I have installed a new solenoid & starter and tried to jump...

First I would check the spark plug. Remove the plug and with the high tension lead fitted earth the plug against the engine, turn the engine and see if the plug is sparking. Hold the metal part of the plug and you wont get shocked. If you have a spark then your problem is fuel, you will have check the carb. and filters. If you have no spark , it could be the wires or the high tension coil.

I cant shut off my lawn tractor with the key

I actually had the same problem with my tractor and it turned out to be that I had to run a second ground wire (ground to a separate point) that forces the coil to ground). My suggestion is to remove the flywheel cover and attach a wire (at a different point) to the coil and then start the tractor and when you go to shut it off. Turn the key and then just find a metal point on the tractor to touch the wire to and hopefully the tractor will shut off.
Good luck!

Check the coil impedance on the primary and secondary side. You'll have to disconnect the battery negative cable so you don't short something out. Unplug the spark plug wires and the two sets of smaller wires connected to the primary side of the coil. The primary coil reading should be between 3.7 ohms and 4.6 ohms while the secondary (spark plug side) should be between 34.2 k-ohms and 41.6 k-ohms. If the resistance values you measure are outside of these ranges, you need to replace the coil.
