Download the 8187b drivers from Realtek's site. You then need to go in and edit the .inf file to read like this:

;;****************************************************************************
;; IDs for 98SE/ME/2K/XP
;;****************************************************************************
[Realtek]
%RTL8187B.DeviceDesc% = RTL8187B.ndi, USB\VID_0BDA&PID_8197&REV_0200
%RTL8187B.DeviceDesc% = RTL8187B.ndi, USB\VID_0BDA&PID_8189&REV_0200

After the edit, install as usual from the device manager.

SOURCE: Toshiba satellite a205-s5804 laptop will not start

Hi, there are a couple of possibilities:
1. If you are able to start the laptop on battery then the dc connector on the motherboard may be broken or have come loose, in which case take it in for repair.
2. The power switch may be broken, again take it in for repair.
3. Tip of the trade: Disconnect the battery and plug in the charger, see if it will switch on. If not then put the battery back in with the mains still plugged in and see whether it springs back to life.
4. Tip of the trade 2: Leave well alone for a couple of days without any battery or power connected then plug back in and see if it will switch on.
Removing the BIOS memory, don't know where you saw that but not recommended at all unless you want to render your laptop completely useless. Don't attempt to strip down unless you are technically experienced with disassembling a laptop.

SOURCE: my toshiba a205 s5804 is asking me a bios password

There is a known issue on this model (A205 and A215) and Toshiba knows about it. A password can be automatically be set by the computer and will need to be removed and have the BIOS updated so it won't happen again by an "authorized service provider." You can locate your closest Toshiba ASP at support.toshiba.com This is a known issue and Toshiba knows about it. You should get this covered at no charge if you take it into an ASP, make sure to verify this with the ASP and take it somewhere else if they tell you it will cost you anything. Toshiba will cover this till December 31st 2010.

Hello.

The most common reasons for power issues are the battery, power jack and power adapter/cord.

Power off and remove the battery. If the laptop powers on with just the adapter connected, your battery is faulty.

If you move/wiggle the power adapter at the point where it connects to the laptop, and the power goes off and on, the power jack is the problem.

The power jack is inside the laptop and either needs soldering or replacement. If a power jack problem, it should be addressed by someone knowledgeable.

If no change, the power adapter is probably faulty and needs replacement.

Hope this helps.

1. It's possible the AC adapter died while you were working on the laptop. The laptop was running until you had charge in the battery and after that it turned off. Can you test the AC adapter? Make sure it outputs correct voltage.
2. It's possible that you have bad RAM module. Do you know if you have two RAM modules installed in your laptop? Try removing them one by one. If one of the modules is bad, the laptop should start when your remove it.

My toshiba satellite A205-S5804 shut off after 20 minute and i upgrade my system to windows 7 but i do not know why it shut off after 20 minute?

If you leave it on without using it, it will turn off to save battery. This can be changed in Start > Control Panel > Power Options.

Otherwise, it is overheating. But this is unlikely. Try the Power Options. If you can't find it, type Power Options in Start Search box.
