Hate to tell you this but your GPU overheated and you will need a new motherboard. If I can hazard a guess I would say it is an HP or at least has an nVidia or ATI chip. At any rate the only way to fix it is professional reflow of graphics chip or replace MB. Sorry!

P.S. I know how to do this so if you are handy and think you can do it I will give instructions.

Acer e-15 laptop keyboard flashing and screen is black

Try this...

1. Turn the laptop off (not sleep or hibernate but off).
2. Connect an external monitor to the laptop.
3. Turn on the external monitor.
4. Turn on the laptop.

NOTE: You may have to press an "external monitor" button. Could be the f4 button or a button with two monitors on it, for the external monitor to work.

If you can see fine on the external monitor, then your attached display, or the ribbon cable that connects it, are your problem.

If you can't see on the external monitor at all, or the problem occurs on the external monitor as well, then it is probably the graphics card/GPU that is the problem, which may require the motherboard be replaced.

Need both laptop and monitor on at same time.

Hey Roger,
Below is information that should help you with trying to get monitor and notebook screen to work.
First make sure your laptop is equipped to be able to connect a secondary display, there should be a port for connecting a standard monitor cable on the back.
Connect your secondary monitor and reboot the laptop, the system bios should recognize that a second monitor has been added.
Then right click on your desktop and bring up the display properties dialog box.
Select "settings"
Your laptop should be identified as monitor 1 and you should also be able to see the secondary monitor as monitor 2.
Click on the secondary monitor and check the box that says "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor".
Set your screen resolution and color quality for the second monitor and click apply.
Directing icons and browser windows over to the other monitor is just a matter of drag and drop.

Thank You,

How to connect my dell inspiron 1501 laptop to my hdtv. am using a vga cable with rca out, to connect to the tv. i have tried everything but none works. if this can work please sent me step by step...

1 - the cable you are trying to use will not work - the RCA inputs in your tv can't accept the signal coming from the VGA. To connect the laptop to a tv the tv must have an VGA input, nothing else will work.
2 - When you start the laptop with an external device (such as an external monitor or tv) attached and turned on, the image may appear on either the laptop's display or the external device.
Press to switch the video image between the display only, the external device only, or the display and the external device simultaneously.

Hello, I cannot connect my ACER ASPIRE 1640 to an external monitor. I only have a predeterminated monitor as configuration option. Please, help me. Thank you Luca.

Alright 1) Turn your laptop off, connect the cables to your external monitor such as a t.v, monitor screen, through your apropriate source such as HDMI, VGA, or S-vdieo which ever one you are connecting it to. Turn your external Monitor on, and if it is a t.v make sure it's the the correct input otherwise it won't work. Then Turn your computer on, once your computer is in the Operating system and completly loaded, Then you want to press the FN button + the F5 button to swtich your display from your laptop to your external screen. There is a little Icon that appears on the screen that lets you know that it is switching either it's duplicating, to your external monitor only or back to your laptop screen, your screen may go blank for a second once your made your choise. Then you should be god to go.
2) If it doesnt work, you might want to try loading your computer first and then plugging in the cables and turning your tv on.
3) If that doesn't work, then maybe your FN button is disabled, and you need to enable it in acer windows mobility aplication. If you have question let me know.

Screen will not turn on, computer is definitely on but nothing showing on screen

Hello,

the problem is either from your screen inverter, screen bulb or the screen itself. To confirm this, connect the laptop to an external monitor and observe if there will be a display.

Take care.

Hi,

Have you tested the LCD inverter board that is located directly underneath the screen itself. Usually they have a large chip or coil that needs to be re-soldered in order to make the backlight work.

This is a common problem with laptops because that particular component gets very hot causing the solder to dry up. The only other thing is the GPU (graphics processing unit) which has failed.

You need to:

- Connect everything with the laptop turned off
- Boot the laptop
- Use the Fn key plus F8 or F9 (I'm trying from a small picture of the keyboard!) to cycle through the external display options.
