Re: the user mode screen
It is asking you to set your user mode. That the color is a bit off or whatever. It is probably going to continue to do this until you set it and ok that setting. Do you have the little booklet that came with your monitor or your dimension manual. You should be able to find the information there. If not, You can do to www.dell.com and look for dowloads, where you can download the manual or view it in PDF format.

it happens due to excess moisture in air when the switch gets shorted by itself due to dust accumulation ,If in warranty pls log a call or else get it checked by a monitor repair person all monitors have same switch's
Push the "Menu" button on the front or side of your Dell
monitor. The button's icon resembles a miniature monitor. This will open
the main monitor setting menu. Push the button again to exit the main
menu and open the OSD menu.
Push the "Down Arrow" button on the monitor to scroll
through the OSD menu. Stop at "Factory Reset." Push the "Menu" button to
open the factory reset menu.
Push the "Down Arrow" button to select "Position Settings
Only" to reset the monitor's horizontal and vertical screen settings.
Press the "Menu" button to activate the setting changes.
Push the "Down Arrow" button to select "Color Settings Only"
to reset the monitor's red, blue and green color settings. Press the
"Menu" button to activate the setting changes.
Push the "Down Arrow" button to select "All Settings" to
restore the monitor to its original factory settings. Press the "Menu"
button to activate the setting changes.
Push the "Up Arrow" button to select "Exit" to leave the
monitor reset menu. Press the "Menu" button to exit the OSD menu. Push
the "Menu" button again to exit the main settings menu.
It sounds like the Monitor adjustment button is engaged or hanging is there anything leaning against the buttons say the back of the keyboard or something may have bumped it hard and caused it to sit funny. Esp. since you said you hit the exit. That display is for adjusting the monitor for size of image brightness contrast screen position. You may have the screen size set too large to get to the whole menu. Check the button issue first, someone once had some pop spray the screen and the dried sticky coke cause the button to stay partially down. Please unplug the monitor if you use any liquid to clean the button to avoid a short or shock. randy320sgi

There are four adjustable options on the OSD settings screen: Lock OSD settings, Timeout, H Position, and V Position. To change OSD settings: 1 Open the OSD setting screen under the Advanced menu. See “Using the On Screen Display” on page 25. 2 Press the Browse buttons to select the option you want to adjust. 3 Press the Select button to check the option. To change OSD lock setting: 1 Press the Browse button to select yes (lock) or no (unlock). The setting is automatically saved when you change the value. 2 Choose Exit sub-menu and press the Select button to return to the OSD Main Menu or press the Menu button to exit OSD. NOTE: Once OSD is locked, all OSD functions including the shortcut buttons are disabled. If OSD is locked, pressing any button on the monitor directly opens the Lock OSD settings window so that you can unlock OSD.
