Canon PowerShot G9 Digital Camera Logo
Posted on Mar 04, 2017

I have a Canon G9 and am trying to connect it to my iMac (Intel-based) running Snow Leopard (10.6) with the supplied USB cable to use the remote capture software. Please note, I am not trying to download photos, I want to take photos with the camera connected to my computer (allowing me to adjust the settings for the camera from the Mac). According to the documentation "RemoteCapture" will not work with the G9 (only the older G series), but CameraWindow should. Every time I run CameraWindow, the application pops up an error message stating "Failed to initialize program" and closes. I have also tried connecting to the camera from ImageBrowser (the Canon Camera link in the app), but that does the same thing. I have already tried re-installing all the software from the disc that came with the camera and updated ImageBrowser and Digital Photo Professional from the Canon website. Unfortunately, they dont appear to have an update for the RemoteCapture application. On a side note, every time I connect my iPhone, CameraWindow tries to open, but freezes. I have to "Force quit" each time.

SOURCE: Computer not recognizing my camera when connected

Most of the issues can be solved by either reinstalling the software or by disconnecting and reconnecting the device.
In this case we can close in on three solutions
1) The USB drive in the system is not functioning. Try connecting any other USB devices to the same USB port and check whether it works or not. If the other device works well then it could be a problem with the data cable or with the port in the camera (usually firewire)

2) The data cable used to transfer data might have become faulty.Try using another data cable if possible and still the same issue continues then try connecting another camera to the system and if the other camera gets detected then the problem must be with the camera.

3) Try connecting the same camera to another system and see whether the camera gets detected. If no, then the port in the camera is defective.

After this we can close in on which could be faulty. data cable / Computer / Camera.

SOURCE: Canon Powershot S2 IS is not recognized on my iMac

Simple fix...use a separate card reader to download to a folder you create on your desktop. Once there, you can move them to iphoto.

Use a card reader to download the pics to a folder you create on your desktop. From there, you should be able to import them to any program you wish...even iPhoto.

Unfortunately Snow Leopard requires a intel processor to work so the G5 imac will not be able to run the system.

Have a canon mx700 printer. Its connected to a imac on snow leopard via usb. Ever since it was updated to new os version. It doesn't recognize the printer. I have searched online for the correct drivers...

First try a new USB cable and swapping ports. Make sure other USB devices work.

Software and drivers are here: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mx_series/pixma_mx700#DriversAndSoftware (select OS from the drop-down menu then look for the notation of version 10.6). This site also has a firmware update for certain of these printers. Use the update with care, sometimes they will make a printer completely unusable.

I hope this helps.

You're not going to be happy with this answer:

Nikon has formally sworn off doing ANY future software updates for their scanners. They stopped at 10.4 (pre-Leopard)

I have imac. and i want to change his operating

Yes it is very easy to do as you are running a Mac with Intel Processor. You have Mac OSx Leopard with updates 1,2, & 3. To upgrade to Mac OSx Snow Leopard you must buy the upgrade. Go here: http://www.apple.com/macosx/ On the top right click (Buy Now) You will have to pay $29 which is a bargain. Once you get the upgrade on CD simply follow the directions for the simple upgrade. I did the same thing when Snow Leopard came out. It is well worth the $29.

If your iMac is an Intel Core 2 Duo running Leopard, it's certainly not a G4.
From the symptoms described, you have either a bad LCD panel or a bad LVDS cable. Either way, what the tech told you is wrong. They can both be replaced. Whether it is cost-effective or not is for you to decide.

SCSI to USB Cable or Converter for Astra 2400S Scanner?

You need a Firewire/ SCSI adapter. Mine is a Belkin F5U541. Then simply connect a SCSI cable from the scanner to the adapter & a Firewire cable from the adapter to your Mac. I'm using my old Umax Astra 2400S w/ a G5 iMac running OSX 10.6.7. I had to upgrade my old copy of VueScan, however, to run on Snow Leopard

I have a Canon MP 990 all-in-one and an iMac running snow leopard. I tried downloading an updated driver for OS 10.6, but am still unable to scan wirelessly. Keeps looking for a USB connection, which I...

The MP990 should be able to do this with snow leopard. Make sure you are using the MP Navigator EX as the application to bring scans into the iMac.

For further information, go to this link. In the search box in the center of the screen, type "scan wireless to mac" and click the Search button. Review the various answers for details.
