I rwplaced the black ink cartridge a week ago. Now the printer says the colored ink carftridge is emty aand it will not let me print. I only want to print black and white and not able to get to a store to replace the colored ink cartridge. Please solve this problem

The only way to solve the problem is by replacing the color cartridge. If you only want to print black and white get a black and white printer. Sorry, but that's the cold hard facts.

I have the same problem & have been searching for weeks for a replacement printer that will print B & W with one or more colors empty. I haven't had any luck yet - I did run across a post that said: For black and white images and photos, a blend of colors called "composite black" may be used to achieve significantly better image quality and smoother gray tones than can be accomplished with black inks alone. I'm still searching...
Try going to the Dell site and searching for that printer model. Then see if you need to have both ink cartridges populated and filled with ink, to make it work.
You might also clean the contacts on the ink cartridges, to make sure the printer knows you have both cartridges in the printer, even though they're not both filled with ink.
It just might require both to be filled, before it will print for you.
Leaving an inkjet for two weeks with an empty cartridge is a definite way to get clogged printheads. Try doing 4 to 5 head cleans, wait about 10 hours for the ink to soften and do another 3 or 4 cleans with anozzle check after each. You should see a gradual improvement in the nozzle checks. Unless you are printing a lot in that color, my Epson Stylus photo color R300 uses black at about twice the rate as the color ones. Most packages or ink, I find, also come with two black and one of every color. All my color ones seem to emply at approximately the same time as the others.
I find the best way to clean the heads is buy some cleaning cartridges as they have cleaning fluid in them and use them to clean it will take about 10 or more times to clean the heads then put the color ones back in and try again.
Just keep putting it on clean the head don't do a print out till at lest you have cleaned 10 or more times.
Apparently, if you hold the "resume button" (the one next to the power button) for about five seconds after you get the message saying to replace the color ink cartridge the machine starts printing. I did this after I went to "maintenance" under "preferences" and changed ink to "black only." At first that alone did not work, but after trying the resume button for 5 secs it worked okay.
Had a similar problem.
It turned out to be poor quality ink refills that I bought at the local mall. Found a good ink supplier who charges $4.00 per cartridge.
Try removing the ink cartridge and cleaning with warm water or a little alcohol and a clean soft cloth or swab in the area where the cartridge is seated
