If it's a Vent-free (Vent-less) heater, not it does not turn OFF the pilot light. If it is a Vented Heater, yes unplugging the heater will turn the pilot light OFF. If you want to turn the pilot off on either unit, the best way to do it is with the Gas Valve, Pilot Control Knob. Turn the knob from the ON position counterclockwise to the OFF position and the pilot flame will go out.

Hope this helped you.

Have a rinnae royal gas lok heater. Cant start it after gas was shut off. How do you get the ignition to work and start the pilot light again

When the gas was turned OFF, air got in the line(s) and created an air pocket. This air will need to purged from the system, before the heater will light. It only the shutoff valve on the gas line to the heater was turned OFF, it will be easier to purge. If your Rinnai heater has manual ignition rather than electronic ignition. Holding the control down in the Pilot position, will eventually purge the air. If you have electronic ignition, continually trying to light the unit will do the same thing, but take longer to accomplish. Consulting your Rinnai will also help you with this situation.

Hope this helps you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

NO HOT WATER N THE PILOT NOT LIGHTING UP

The thermocouple has gone bad.The thermocouple needs to be directly in the pilot flame. When the thermocouple goes out,the flame most of the time will have burned the thermocouple tip a way.If it was not for this devise, the gas would exscape, and fill the home up.This is a safety feature.

Where is the pilot light on Rinnai EnergySaver 1001F

If you smell gas in a Rinnai you have a big issue. This heater is what is called a direct vent heater with an electronic ignition so the combustion chamber is sealed and the smell of gas is an indication that you have a gas leak. Please call a professional today.
