You need to change the coolant in the CRTs. Its a common problem with phillips/magnavox TVs. You can get the coolant replacement kit at the following link with all the coolant and the step by step instructions with pictures on CD. Its listed under the repair kits. magnavox and phillips are the same TVs. here is the link.

Not a clear picture

CRT projection televisions need periodic maintenance to maintain a clear picture. Typically, to maintain a sharp picture, they require cleaning and alignment every two or three years. If the television is being used in an environment where there is cigarette smoke or other smoke sources, the optics inside the television can become dirty and cause the picture to blur. Additionally, CRT focus and alignment wander over time, or physical CRT alignment can be knocked out if the set is bumped or dropped. All RCA CRT projection televisions have an "alignment" or "convergence" adjustment in their adjustment menus, which are fairly simple to use. The convergence feature is usually accessible from the main menu of the television. Check your User's Manual for the procedure to touch-up the convergence adjustment and see if you are able to achieve a sharper picture. If the optics in your set have not been cleaned for several years, or if it is in a smoky environment, the picture will be blurry and usually a brownish color, In any case, since the set is several years old at this point, it's likely due for a cleaning. This is best done by a technician, and mostly involves physical cleaning of internal lenses, the refractor mirror on the back of the chassis, and the back of the opaque display screen. An adjustment of CRT bias controls and individual CRT focus adjustments will bring further improvement in the image sharpness and clarity.

Problem with the Philips Magnavox 9P6034C 60 in. Rear Projection Television, had TV for 16 years. Picture gradually got darker and less clairity

the projection tubes do wear out over time and there is no fix but to replace them. you might first check to make sure the lenses and mirror are clean, do not use compressed air to clean as you may force dust between the lenses. if the picture is darker at the edges or a different hue then the coolant is likely contaminated and needs changed

Cob webs behind screen

The frame around the screen just pops off. Unscrew the plastic holders from the chassis frame and the screen will come off allowing you to clean everything inside easily. The "2" thin screens are easily cleaned and put back on easily also. Don't do what I did and think the screens go into the front slot of your plastic brace, they slide easily into the wider slot. You'll also be able to clean the dust from the reflector and guns with Windex. Much better picture after wards, trust me. You would be surprised how much dust may have accumulated on the lenses.

Projection picture is horrible, not clear

This set needs the coolant fluid between the tubes and lenses replaced. This is a very common problem for philips/magnavox projection tv's and should only be performed by a professional so that there will be no leaks. Theis is a complicated repair. Thanks for using fixya.

My rear projection tv is working but the picture in very light and hard to see. Almost like a glare cloud is sitting on the screen. You have to turn off the lights to see whats on the screen.

This is a common problem for Philips/magnavox projection TV's. The coolant fluid between the picture tubes and lenses has broken down and is not clear. It will have to be replaced in order to restore the picture to normal. This is a messy job and the tube and lens assemblies have to be removed. Have a repair shop check it out for you. Thanks for using fixya.

Phillips magnavox 52" big screen rear projection t.v

I will say that you probably still have the clear liquid (Glycol) still on the board. I recommend cleaning with a degreaser spray and brush it off with a clean 1inch paint brush. You can get the spray at Radio Shack The glycol is hard to remove and is conductive to electricity.

Inside the cabinet projected on the screen?

well . there are 4 things that can cause this..
1= the outer screens could be dirty.clean with screen protector cleaner.Spray on cloth and not on outer screens.
2= outside lenses of picture tubes could be dirty.Unit can be opened .Outside lenses can be cleaned with a lens cloth .Do not use paper towels or cotton as this my scratch surfaces of lenses.
3= inside of picture tubes could be dirty. This should be done by a repair shop only(dirty coolant inside tubes)
