What is the life expectancy of a gas grill pressure regulator?

I've been in the propane business 28 years and have found regulators from the 1950's still in use today. Regulator manufacturers tell us they should be replaced after 25 years. It should typically outlast the grill itself, which often require new burners, cooking grids, etc. The hissing sound can just be the flow of gas thru the regulator. If you smell gas however, then you should replace it. If it is affecting the pressure to the burners and not getting hot enough to cook properly, then replace it as well.

Not hot enough

Check that the gas jet is not partially blocked limiting the amount of gas out. To up size my bbq to a hotter flame I used oxy welding set tip drills and gently opened up a size. worked a treat and cooked quicker. maybe you can get next size jets for your problem. check that the regulator is not restricting the gas flow.

We have permasteel gas BBQ grill. grill can be lighted up, but gradually died off. It seems that no enough gas pressure and flows. The regulator gets iceing and cold.

too much gas passing from reg causing freezing of gas reg or line or check for gas leak on reg , reg could be stuck open again too much gas pasing .

My grill is burning low it will not get hot enough. I leak checked and there is no leaks.

take it part on inside and clean real good . All parts should lift out. Also you can put a new burner on the bottom of your grill. They sell new burners at Walmart home depot and lowes good luck

GAS JETS BLOCKED IN OVEN

If there is only enough gas for the pilot, it is very likely the main gas ciontrol valve is either in need of replacement or the "hot wire" sensor is in the wrong place or broken.
Basically the hot wire determines if the pilot is lit before turning on the main gas supply valve. It is a safety feature to dissapoint the suicidal.

I suggest this is fitted by a gas engineer as a leak at the valve can be very dangerous.

Grill will not light

Try replacing the regulator if you get no gas flow, or very weak gas flow. If you have gas flow and you are trying to light the grill with the ignitor. The rotary piezo ignitions must click with each turn, if they don't then they are bad and need to be replaced. If you have a new lynx with the glow plugs, check to see if they are glowing, if they are glowing and the grill has gas and still won't light, then the glow plugs are not getting hot enough which means you are leaking current somewhere and have to trace everything down to find the short.
