My jl 500/1 sub amp just stopped working after a few years, all lights are on, if i feel the speakers while the music is up high i feel a very small vibration out of the subs, i smell a little burnt smell almost like rubber, i opened it up and i noticed a little black inside one of the 7 black clip shaped pieces attached to the inside side wall under which looks like white lithium grease(located on the opposite side where the wires connect). Im guessing this is the problem, any ideas where i should go or what i should do?
It sounds like the power supply failed. Generally when the supply fails in that amp, you have to replace all 8 of the power supply FETs and all 8 of the 47 ohm surface mount resistors. Many times, the supply fails because one or two of the output transistors have failed.
If you want to have JL repair it, you MUST go through an authorized JL dealer.
If you have a good local repair shop, they should be able to repair it.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
How much did JL charge you to fix this? My 500/1 just did this exactly!
what is the exact part number of the FET transistors?
I have a jl 500 1 ive replaced everything but the 47 ohm surface mount resistors. I ordered them but were to small. can you give me the size or package style that will fit would be much appreciated.
