Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

My Fellowes DM15C shredder shuts off after about 4 seconds and the "bin full" light comes on. Of course it is not full. I think I need to clean the sensor/s, but I don't know where to find it/them. I took the bin out, turned the machine upside-down, held in the "bin missing" switch and ran the machine but couldn't locate any bin full sensor. I've tried looking at the Fellowes site but 1) they don't mention my model at all, and 2) they don't list fixes for any model. Perhaps I am looking in the wrong place? Can you help? Thanks, Penny

There is a micro-switch on the right side of the bin-full swing plate, blow it out with canned air.

At first the shredder would only run for 3-4 seconds, then quit. Turning the rocker switch off, then back on, would cause the shredder to run another 3-4 seconds, OR pulling the collection bin out, then...

could be the sensor needs cleaning or is now defective. Use a q-tip and insert it where the paper goes. Look for a small button which senses the paper and triggers the stredder motor.

Fellowes c-220c always full

there is usually a flap that leans into the paper tray and when it gets full the shreds push on this flap and activate a switch...
look for the flap and see if it bent or came off it's hinges.

look for two LED lights where paper falls into bin and wipe them off, but the sensors could be faulty as well. I have seen both.

The automatic-on function will not work

What model is it? Do any lights come on? All shredders auto shut off after a while.

The "bin full" keeps on coming on

first off, fellowes has had problems with the bin full sensors that sometimes, can only be corrected by replacing them. however, there are two things to check. make sure it doesn't have a bunch of shredded paper hanging down from the cutters. that can trigger the bin light as the sensore are located under the head, but above basket. last, but not least, clean the sensors. they get paper dust on them after awhile causing same indication. if those two things don't fix it, it will have to have sensors replaced.

good luck,

Short run time and redlight, stops running Fellowes DM15C

There are two sensors (look like little light bulbs) on the top part of the shredder at either end of the blades. If you pull out the drawer and turn the shredder upside down you will see them. They get dirty telling the machine that it is full and needs to be emptied. Clean the sensors off with an alcohol wipe. If cleaning them does not work you need to replace the sensors.

DM15C stops after 4 seconds, open bin light comes on

I lived with the problem for 6+ Months -- drove me NUTS -- Today, I called Fellows -- Spoke to "JoAnn"... She said this works 80% of the time...
Pull out the bin -- put your foot inside to hold the shredder down -- pull up on the top of the shredder -- you WILL hear a POP as the plastic top disengages from the bottom but TRUST ME THIS IS OK! -- take off this top section (which houses the blades) -- flip it over -- you will see 6 screws total but it is the sets of 2 screws close together to focus on -- right next to the screws you will see a tiny glass sensor -- use a q-tip and alcohol to give them a wipe -- press the top back on -- bin back in -- you are DONE -- This took me less than 1 minute and it works as it did the day I got it! Go shred something!  :)
