On what operation are you receiving the black line in your paper?
This problem usually appears when you try to scan or copy using your ADF (automatic document feeder). To remove this black line in your paper, clean the ADF platen glass in your printer and do as well in the flatbed scanner glass. This ADF platen glass can be found right below where the documents in the ADF goes through. Its a glass about 1 inch in with and beside the flatbed scanner glass (the one where your documents is lay down for copying and scanning. Dried ink or paper residue sticked in the glass can cause this line in the paper. Clean it with a a clothe and spray some windex on it.
Documents scanned/copied from the document feeder pass over a thin
glass area where scanning occurs. Clean this area if sent faxes, copies
or scans have black or white vertical lines.
Lift the document cover to expose the platen glass.
Wipe the ADF scan area (C) with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth moistened with water.
Then wipe with a clean, soft, dry, lint-free cloth making sure there are no residues left, especially on the platen glass.
Close the document cover and make a copy of a text document to confirm the black line has disappeared.
Leave the cover up and run a 'copy.'
Look closely at the fluorescent scanner light and note if it seems equally bright from end to end.
If it does, the photo-assembly that acts as an image receiver is probably sick.
If it is, with the labor cost and potential non-availability of parts, you might be better off replacing it unless still under warranty.
If the problem only happens on copies or sent faxes then no it is not your drum. There is something on your scan glass. My guess is you are getting the line on your copies when you run the original through the document feeder. If you get lines through the document feeder but not on copies made off the glass then it is a dirty scan glass. There is a thin glass strip where the document feeder feeds the original. Usually something like white out that did not dry smears off an original and ends up on this thin strip of glass. Scratch it off with your finger nail and use some glass cleaner to resolve the problem. The scan glass is about 1/2 an inch to an inch wide and will be on the same side of the machine that the copier feeds the originals in on
There is most likely something on your scan glass that is blocking the scanner. Clean of both pieces of glass that are there when you flip open the ADF, or top cover. Try to copy again. If it is still there then there is either something on the scanner piece that moves back and forth to scan or one of your scan LEDs is burnt out and the scanner will have to be replaced.
I had the same problem, and I just fixed it. It was a tiny little black dot which was stuck to the glass where the document feeder passes the paper to. First you need to figure out where the line is on paper with respect to the paper, and just carefully run your finger on the glass to see if there is something on the glass. I removed it, cleaned the glass, and anything which I run through the document feeder is now fine. Hope this helps.
