Washing machine is showing IE
If you have a LG washer, the IE error indicates an inlet error. This can be caused by low water pressure, the water shut-off valves being in the closed position, clogged filters (either at the shut-off valves or the filters on the washer), an anti-flood inlet hose failure or a problem with the washer's inlet valve. First, make sure that the shut-off valves are open. Next, shut off those valves and disconnect the fill hoses. Check and clean the filters on each side. Try new hoses. (Many anti-flood hoses will restrict the flow when they fail. A way to check this can be to connect the hoses to the shut-off valves and put the other end into a bucket. Open the shut-off valves and check the amount of water flowing into the bucket. Do this for the hot and cold side separately.) Make sure that the inlet hoses are not kinked.
Make sure that the end of the outlet hose isn't lower than the washer's fill level. This can lead to the water flowing out of the washer as it fills.
If none of these solutions work, then the inlet valve has failed in the closed position or there is a problem with the sensor that monitors the amount of water in the tub within a certain amount of time. Try replacing the inlet valve. (If you add a comment with the washer model number, I may be able to get the part number for you.) Of course if the washer is under warranty, contact the company.
For a Samsung washer, this could be a Suds error. That suggests too much detergent was used, a non-HE detergent was used, or the filter before the drain pump is clogged. Try running the washer without any detergent to rinse the excess detergent out. If the error recurs, get a bucket ready to catch the water from the tub and pump. Next you will need to get into the washer and separate the drain hose from the pump and clean out the "coin catcher" filter. Make sure that there are no foreign objects in the pump. Then reconnect the hose and try running the machine. (If you add a comment with the model, I may be able to tell you how to access the pump.) Other causes for the IE error are a bad door seal or the outlet hose being too low in the overflow pipe. Also check that the washer is level and that the detergent drawer is fully closed.
I hope this helps.
