Hi,

The Standby/Power light of the TV blinks when there is any internal malfunction in the TV. The self-diagnostic function of the TV will cause the STANDBY light to blink or flash when the television detects an issue. The number of times the STANDBY light flashes corresponds to a specific issue.
Few examples are given below; some of the issues may be resolved without the need for service.
1 blink / 2 blinks / 5 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set.
3 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set. The set will need to be serviced to allow a technician to determine the specific issue that needs to be repaired. If the power light flashes three times in sequence in a Lamp TV, the lamp cover is not securely attached. Reattach the lamp cover to resolve this issue.
4 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a back light or lamp power problem.
6 blinks: - This indicates that there is some kind of audio problem with your set.
7 blinks: - This indicates that there is a temperature problem with your set. Please check to make sure that the air vents on the sides and back of the set are not blocked or clogged and there is adequate ventilation around the television. We recommend that you check and clean the vents periodically to make sure the set receives adequate air flow. If the problem continues, the set will need to be serviced.
8 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a video-related problem with your set. If the flash sequence is not listed above or the light continues to flash, follow the steps below to perform a power reset:
Try the following steps to check if the issue can be resolved.
Turn off the television.
Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.

If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.
If the issue continues to occur, service may be required.

My Sony Trinitron kv-30XBR910 wont turn on. It sounds like it, then like it shuts itself off again. Standby light blinks 7 times, shuts off for a sec, 7 blinks.. What's this mean? Can I fix it myself?

power supply. Check capacitors on the power supply board, replace ANY that have the slightest bulge on top, should cost you less than $10 in parts, and some through hole soldering. Ebay has capacitor kits for your TV or you can just look on sides of bad ones and replace. Try and get the same thermal rating (85C or 105C) and always get same capacitance. Voltage is not a deal breaker if you get something higher, but never lower. I'm watching a $1200 Samsung TV right now I bought for $50 and $4 in replacement capacitors.

Stand by light blinking 7 times. occassionally turns on when pressing reset and power button.

  • Seven blinks - High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply regulation and horizontal circuits.
There is a High Voltage fault or power supply fault.
Hope that helps.

Sony Trinitron 30XBR910 Not Turning On

The three blinks code(sony error codes) indicates a problem in the power supply. In your case since you manage to turn it on after a while it may mean that you have weak capacitors or bad solder joints in the power supply.
Hope this help Good luck

KV-30XBR910 won't power on, 7 blinks

I have the same set, and same problem. After many hours/days of reading about this issue (which seems to be a popular one for this series and others) I have found a few sites that have detailed info on what can be done. This link is for a different set but the same issue. http://www.agoraquest.com/viewtopic.php?topic=1121&forum=34&start=80&select_page_number=9
This problem seems rampant on many Sony sets. There really should be a class action suite against them for the replacement cost of the parts which can be $400(USD) or more unless you are handy with a soldering iron.
I have a service tech coming by to look at the set soon ($75) so he can tell me what is actuall wrong with it. Once I know if it is the D-board or the usual 3 ICs that die. I will most likely have a friend of mine solder on some sockets to replace the ICs if the happen to die again.
Good luck

Sony kv-30xbr910 my tv won't turn on and the standby fashes 7 times

Good day.
Your unit has issues with the high voltage section. Particularly the vertical and horizontal sections. Blinking lights indicates that your flyback is not osscilating to distribute the supply to the sections. Please have it checked by a repaiman.
