Having installed this motherboard in the case and connected up I get a series of fast beeps a few seconds after power-up. I have immediately powered down. What is causing this problem? There is nothing in the manual about [email protected]

Potential Hard Drive failure, (Hard drive s.m.a.r.t. beep) or if MB beep it's chassis intrusion..

1. Remove battery + disconnect power
2. Hold down power button for 20 seconds
3. connect power only (no battery)
4. Turn computer on.


If the beeps stopped.. get a new battery, if the beeps continue..
ABANDON SHIP!

It should start for a few seconds, the fans should spin and then stop. You should be able to power it up as per normal. If that is no the case then you are having hardware issues which could be the Power supply

Anything MORE than ONE beep indicates that the motherboard has detected a problem:
* bad RAM
* RAM not correctly "seated" in its socket
* one of the fans powered by the motherboard (CPU, case) is not spinning, or is not spinning fast-enough
* bad video-card

EXACTLY what sequence of "sounds/beeps" you do hear?

Good day sir, hi, lets make sure first that your motherboard is good, so we need to test it, just prepare the folowing items.

1. A good working power supply, to test: place a jumper wire across the green wire and any black(or sometimes the red with work) wire on the 20/24 pin power connector. Plug it and see if the exhaust fan run.
2. A good set of Ram, just make sure its good. if not or in doubt buy new one (only one module) if you want. (you can keep the doubtful ones and test it later)
3. A keyboard.
4. If your motherboard has no VGA onboard, A good VGA card.
5. A thumb speaker, or you can use your PC case speaker.

Okay lets assemble, on a table:

1. Place your motherboard, (make sure no metals underneath) connect the Power Supply 20(or 24) pin to your motherboard and the 4 pin 12v connector. (if your motherboard has one).
2. Connect the pc thumb speaker or your case speaker.
3. connect the keyboard.
4. connect the RAM, make sure it clicks as you install it.
5. Optional VGA card. Onboard vga will do. Connect a monitor. plug in the monitor.

Okay, plug in your power supply, (exhaust fan is off at the moment) locate the power button pins, short them with a screwdriver. (fan is now on)

Now check your Keyboard. you will see two sets of lights, first set is Num Lock + Scroll Lock + Caps Lock, then a few seconds the second set: Num Lock only. at this point your motherboard is good.

Also check out the PC speaker beeps.

• 1 beep mean good.
• 1 long and 3 short beeps VGA is bad. (it may help if the VGA is snug and fit on the slot). If on board VGA, use a new AGP/PCIe card.
• Continous long beeps. cannot detect memory
• Continous short beeps, motherboard. (or memory sometimes).
• No beep, fan is on.at this point do everything again. (do it several times until the board responds)

have you check your power supply?

Thats a standard mother board warning...back when i built a few computers i got this all the time it meant "no Memory" or no ram chips were installed or that the memory was not compatible it should just beep three times with about a second delay in between each beep...then thats your problem...your ram might be dead! if it has 3 short beeps and boots up fine it could just be a start up beep i know of older computers beeping quickly 3 times before booting....though ive never delt with asus boards only Intel. but i doubt it would be much different

The problem is with your RAM. Try installing the RAM in another slot. Install your AGP card slowly. I can assure about your motherboard yet you have no problem without assembling. Keep informing.

a constant beep indicates either a power supply, motherboard or keyboard problem.

If you know what you are doing then open up the case (turning off the power first of course and earth yourself by touching the case before anything inside it) and make sure all the connecters are seated properly and try a different keyboard if you have one.

It has to do with the KT-600 series "anti burn regulator" and how it has a hard time with the XP2600 thru 3200 CPU's because they get so hot so fast... Try pressing the power on button again immediately after the long beep ends. Your computer should boot right up. Or, you can disable the ABR by removing the jumper from the pins on the motherboard. I haven't tried this because I like knowing the ABR works so good. It only takes a second or two to fry a CPU.
