If its not cooling or freezing then the compressor has to be checked. The compressor is the part which controls the cooling and freezing in the refrigerator. If the gas / refrigerant in the compressor gets low/ less then compressor will run more but it will not cool due to less refrigerant in compressor. In that case the compressor needs to be replaced. -------------- Also it can be faulty defrost assembly parts causing this issue. The thermostat is got faulty or the heater is not turning off. This also causes every thing to get defrosted.

The defrost assembly consists of three main parts. The defrost thermostat, the defrost heater and defrost board. Any of the one is not functioning. When thermostat sense the maximum cooling, it triggers the defrost heater to start heating and this defrosts the ice collected on the coils and the system works. Both thermostat and heater are controlled by defrost board. First the thermostat and defrost heater to be checked, if both check ok by meter and visually, then its defrost board causing the problem. You can get required parts from online sites like: --- www.repairclinic.com or from searspartsdirect online site.------------

Before that you can try manual defrost reset procedure. The manual defrost reset procedure is as follows : ----First unplug the unit from main power outlet. Then empty whole unit completely. Then keep both the doors open. Wait for 24 hours. All the ice collected on the coils and in the freezer section will get melted. Clean the water from the sections. Then Connect the power cord of the unit to main power outlet after 24 hours/.Then set the temperature to normal in both fridge and freezer section. It will take near to 4 hours to get run in its proper cooling cycle. Then check, if the problem returns again. Then go for replacing the parts.-------------------This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Where can I get a repair manual for a Hotpoint Fridge

Hi,

First of all, the model number you gave is not complete. But check you defrost system in the freezer, when the refer section stops cooling, your evaporator in the freezer is possibly full of ice and the fan won't move air through ice. When the refer sections fails to cool, check for a fan in the freezer. If it works, you have a defrost problem and is occurs every 3 - 5 days. The unit should defrost once or twice a day. Good Luck

You might check this link for details that are similar to your fridge issue. Likely you do not have cold air fanning to the bottom compartment hence not cool. I assume your seals work properly and that it is a fridge internal issue.

Fridge portion doesn't get cold

The defrost circuit is not working, there are usually 3 things that normally go bad, defrost timer, defrost heater, and thermal switch. Would have serviceman check it out as cooling fins on coils will cut you like a razor.

Since you did not inclde a model number this is a generic response. What your describing is caused by the unit not automatically defrosting.
The parts of the automatic defrost system are:
1. The defrost control / This can be a mechanical clock timer or electronic adaptive defrost control
2. The defrost heater
3. The defrost thermostat or thermistor (depending upon model number)

One of the three has failed. I doubt #3 (thermostat or thermistor) is the problem as it would usually cause the unit to stay in the defrost mode and everything would thaw out.

You can find parts by going to this page:
http://shop.amana.com/product_literature/search.jsp?siteCd=AMA
You must choose servicer and then enter your model number to get the parts manual.

If nothing else... download your parts manual and look up the parts that are replaced on your unit to see if you got a fair shake on your repair. Just net search the part numbers.....

Not cooling as normal 2008 summit ridge reserve dometic rm 1350 with ice maker. started acting up last year, fans not coming on so I addedan external one .problem solved until recently lost power. now...

Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

Freezer and fridge don't cool at all. everything else works fine

Heya,
There is a fault with samsung fridges that when it goes on defrost it will not start the compressor or the fans again. If you turn on the power the fridge should run for a couple of hours and then stop if so you will need to get a tech out to order a samsung yellow sensor and a fridge defrost isolation sensor. If the fridge does not work at all if you would like i will talk you a couple of little checks before calling someone out.

Hope this helps

Fan begins to make noise - then fridge stops.

You have a defrost system failure and needs to be checked.

You can manually defrost for a temp fix. Turn it off, take everything out of the freezer, use a hairdryer to warm the back wall, 20-30 min, put everything back, turn it back on and you should be good for a couple of days.

Kenmore side by side Refrigirator

Sounds like you have a defrost problem. The timer could be playing up and taking too long to defrost, which causes the evaporator to ice up, hence no cold air to the fridge and the water line freezes up, hence no water dispensed. When the timer does eventually defrost the fridge then everything returns to normal. This could also be caused by a faulty defrost terminator or bad connection on the defrost element.
