Mitsubishi WS48511 48" Rear Projection Television Logo
Posted on Aug 06, 2008

Colors off Suddenly, my TV image goes back and forth at random between a normal image and one where the red and green is off-set dramatically making the image look horrible. I tried resetting the convergence automatically, but it didn't help. The image still switches from good to bad at random (every few minutes so far). Is this worth fixing or should I buy a new TV? We've had this TV (similar model, not sure of exact number) for about 4 years and just had a major failure of a larger screen diamond series Mitsubishi as well. We're not inclined to go with Mitsubishi again. Thanks.

Why did my Kolin DLT-3212M LCD tv picture suddenly go green

Are you connected with a box of some kind via the component input on this set? (red, green, blue connections?

If so unplug that box and wait--plug it back to see if the box will reboot and correct the issue--also you can try to swap green cable itself with blue for example and if then have BLUE issue that cable is bad.

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Below are more details for both items. Also, complete repair kits with instructions and repair support are avail from site such as www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Green horizontal

I believe that you must reset the colors of the screen by the buttons on it or try to set colors by the software that the product came with it if any. There should be a setting to configure the 4 basic colours like red green black etc. Try to adjust green. If nothing helpes go the monitor back to test it by the store you bought it if there is warranty. Hope that helped!

Negative type images in pink & lime green

I had the same problem....turned out it was the "lvds" cable that runs from the mainboard to the lcd controller board. Simply remove the tape that holds it to the back of the backlight housing and also remove the foil shielding tape from the connector on the lcd controller board.

Covergence Problem

What exactly are you seeing on the screen? If one of the colors is only slightly off, you should be able to correct it with the standard menu. If one or more of the colors has suddenly taken a dramatic shift, and is curved inward at a side, it means that one of your convergence output IC's has burned out. You should not attempt to realign the convergence if this happens because you will only be messing up all the settings, and when the new IC is installed, the picture will still be out of alignment.

Red & Green seem "off centered"

Your set uses the 195 series chassis, which has separate components for each of the 6 convergence channels and a separate power supply for the convergence circuits. If all 3 colors have drastically shifted, especially around the edges, then chances are your convergence power supply has stopped working. This is usually caused by the failure of the STK730-010 switching IC. If one of the colors has dramatically shifted by itself then something has stopped working on the convergence board. Sometimes I see CRT coolant leaking onto the convergence board as the cause. In either case this is something that should be repaired and realigned by someone experienced with RCA projection TV convergence circuits.
