Question about Sony Audio Players & Recorders

Open Question

I have a Sony stereo cassette deck TC FX25 with a cassette tape stuck in the deck. After the same thing happened quite a while ago I was able to remove it safely-but now don't remember how I did it. Upon pressing the eject button, the door does not fully open. When I pull on the deck door it opens forward enough to be able to pull the tape up and out. However, something is holding the tape firmly in place. Power button is on. Thank you!

Have you checked all the drive belts? Some dual decks use one drive motor and a long belt to drive both decks.
you also should be able to remove the cover of the tape compartment off to see the deck better

SOURCE: Cassette Tape stuck

The problem here is that the unit is stuck in a partial position. The "reset" by unplugging and plugging back in usually causes the unit to reset to a known position. If there is no activity (no motor sound), it will need to be opened up and reset manually. If you hear the motor running for a short period, it is attempting to reset, but the belt is most likely worn or broken. These units are relatively simple, but a bit tricky to dis-assemble. This repair should not require anything other than a belt or 2. Figure on $3-$10 for parts plus the local labor rate for the repair.

How do I get this device to play and record again? I often clean the heads.

if one reuses the tape often, ive found that the tape stretches and no longer covers the entire record path (or play path) , i still have a few cassette and reel to reel decks that I still use , and since the tapes are hard to find now I keep reusing the tapes more and more 4 the same thing , I guess its been like in the past year ive seen this tape stretching thing happen now

Where can I have my 15 year old Sony Model TC-WR465 Stereo Tape Deck Repaired? The problem appears to be mechanical. The tapes will not advance on either side of the unit.

Depend on your location and willingness to ship the unit. The cost of the repair must also be weighed in. If you don't want to put $100 into it I don't think most shops these days will want to open it up. Dual cassette deck are notorious for failure due to cheap design. Look around at all the problems. I have been fixing units for 40 years and even at Sony and Sony authorized.
I can look at it at Skywave Tape Deck Repair in Chicago area if you want. Google it.

Cassette Tape Deck Problem

Unit may have worn belts that are slipping. All cassette player belts are subject to deterioration even if recently installed. You may try ordering the belts yourself and have a service tech install them. The tech that installed belts 9 months ago may have used used belts. Although dishonest, it is common.
