I have tried to dumb down hp 2460 on a windows 98 machine, but i have
a problem choosing the port to assign the printer.
As a default the printer assignment will be configured to lpt1 port.
But the HP 2460 is a usb port configured printer. How can I go abut this?
Any reply regarding the matter would be highly appreciated.
Thnks!
It would be better for me, as far as an alert to your follow up questions are concerned if you would use the comment box below to reach me. Thanks.
In your list of ports to assign your printer to, there should be a virtual USB port.
Do you see that in your port list?
Normally, when connecting a USB printer, the software involved requires that the USB cable be unattached, and then when prompted you connect the cable. This allow the installation software creates the virtual port.
That me know about this. And please use the comment box below.

I'll try and find you install software for the 1024, I think that is the printer, as I stated before, The installation program creates the USB bridge to a printer package.HP uses this one as the fall back drivers when a new printer in the 2000 series fails in the field.
And, to be honest. I haven't seen this problem in a few years so I'm a bit rusty and therefore will not try and type out some directions off the top of my head. Just being real here.
I'll need a bit of time today as I have a lot of work outside in the field today.

Sorry I couldn't help you more. This is the problem with 98, I see if I could find a second hand copy of 2000, which will run on any 98 vintage machine and install drivers for the modern day printer and almost all hardware.
