usually is to set the dpi(Dot per Inch) the resolution or how many point the mouse can see on the screen.
In some application is not necessary to see too many point is going slowly unnecessary calculation, for example are games in which the resolution is far less so less dpi some time re quicker as a response of the PC
for program as Photoshop , Corel and AutoCAD is good to have precision on the screen

The buttons on the top(under the scroll) are default for changing DPI. If you can't change DPI from them, install the software for your mouse and open it. You can customise your DPI from there.
I;d expect this to work with the standard usb driver. The dpi is adjusted from beneath ((1600 dpi--blue; 3200 dpi--purple; 5000 dpi--red) and weights inserted from the box - purely mechanical. If it is not operational, my guess would be a problem with the usb lead or with the standard usb drivers of your machine. Check for this latter with any other usb connected item that should be usable from the same port. If repairing the usb lead itself replace it with a cheap usb lead; these are obtainable in most stores now, including supermarkets, and replacement will be easier than an attempt at repair.
Try to decrease the mouse resolution. If your mouse is set to 1600 dpi, try using the 1200 or 800 dpi resolution for your mouse.
If you will get the same problem and if you are using a Windows computer, go to the Control Panel > Mouse > decrease the mouse speed and acceleration > Apply or OK.
you can't get rid of the PS2 because thats where it looks for the mouse, being usb it's not listed in dxdiag, there should be a mouse menu from your mouse and keyboard driver, or in control panel to tweak the Dpi
This is a possible solution for a "slow" mouse. I'm going to give you generic instructions as I'm not sure which operating system you are using.
Open your control panel. You can do this by pressing start, and then finding the icon labeled control panel.
Now look for an Icon labeled Mouse, open that one.
You should see several options in this window, one of which would be "motion" or "Pointer Options" What your looking for is one that allows you to change the pointer speed. It should be a sliding selector.
By dragging the selector from left to right you can change the speed at which the mouse moves across your screen.
