Buday, it sounds like the blower fan and motor needs cleaning and oiling. This should be done annually and you can do it yourself. This should quite things down a bit.

According to your Owners Manual, here's what you need to do.

Servicing and Oiling the Fan Motor:
The fan motor should be cleaned and oiled once each heating season.
To reach the motor, withdraw the metal shroud surrounding the fan
blade by removing the screws on each side. Oil holes are located
on the top at each end of the motor. Use a few drops of #10 motor
oil. To clean the motor, blow air through its ventilation openings
with a vacuum cleaner or low pressure air source (canned air with a
straw nozzle like you clean your computer with works well).

Empire wall furnace pushing down the pilot button trying to light the pilot found too much gas flowing

Is the button on the gas valve or a red button in the line to the pilot assembly? If its in the line, there is a regulator upstream of the button. If the gas is coming from the gas valve, there is a small screw covered hole in line with the pilot line in the gas valve. If neither of these apply, you may need to replace the orifice in the pilot assembly. Let me know how it goes.

I've got a 23 yr old 30DV3 whose pilot light works, and the thermostat & heating element seem to work, but not well. With the thermostat set at full hot, it just barely throws out any heat at all. ...

As I'm sure you already know, Empire Comforts Systems, no longer makes that model heater and hasn't for some years, now. I mentioned that, because if your unit needs parts, they may be almost impossible to get. In any event, there are a several things that may be causing the problem.

  • Low Gas Pressure - Burner is not receiving enough gas. Check for obstructions and have gas pressure at the unit checked.
  • Clogged burner or air intake (venturi valve) is partially clogged. Clean burner ports and venturi valve.
  • Gas line Shut Off Valve at heater not fully open. Check Gas line Shut Off Valve.
At 23 years old, you've gotten your money's worth out of this unit and it may be time to replace it. Empire makes several Direct Vent Wall Furnaces that are rated as High Efficiency Furnaces. In the long run, the money saved in fuel cost, would be worth installing a new one.

Hope this helps you solve the problem.

Empire FAW-60-2-spp fan short cycles about 4 seconds on/off

From what you have described, it sounds as if the Fan Control Switch, ECS Part # R-1941, which works in conjunction with the Limit Control Switch (ECS Part # 912073) is failing and needs to be replaced. You can order these parts directly from Empire Comfort Systems. If you decide to replace these parts yourself, it will give you an opportunity to thoroughly clean the interior of the Wall Furnace, if you haven't already. If you need further information, contact Empire Comfort Systems, Technical Service @ 800-851-3153 Monday - Friday.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot the problem. Please don't forget to rate my response. Thanks!

Empire wall heater with wall vent pilot light

It sounds like the gas valve is dropping out. Make sure the system is venting the exhaust(no restrictions). Then make sure all your wiring connections in the unit are tight. In a millivolt system if all wiring connections aren't tight and clean your circuit will drop in millivolts and the gas valve will drop out. The gas valve requires a certain millivolt to stay open. I hope I was of some assistance!! Good luck!!

Wall gas furnace

look inside the control panel of the heater. look for a 120 volt to 24 volt transformer.  There may be a fuse on the transformer secondary.  The thermostat switches a hot 24 volt wire so you won't find a common at the thermostat.
