above the function keys (F3,F4 or F5) you will see the wifi icon touch that icon and should light up. indicating wifi is on.

According to the product specifications on HP/Compaqs website, this model Evo does not have wireless built in, only modem and ethernet ports are the means for getting online. A wireless usb card can be used to get wireless. Specs can be found here -

if Yes, Then you have to check whether the Driver installed or not.
Please confirm first whether you are confirmed that you have Wificard in your Desktop?

did you refer to the wifi light? actually wifi radio receiver is a manual thing and you should turn it ON and OFF manually. Im not sure with the model you described but try to look for a slide or push button with the wifi icon (an antenna with 3 waves). then try to see if the wifi led is lit. Another way, if your device is soft touch, then there is no hard press button for it. it will be a combination of FN + a function key (look at the function key with the wifi icon)
