Question about HP Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

Recently i bought a HP printer F4185 feb/mar this year but then i was not using it frequently. unfortunately the ink dried up and i was asked to change the printer head. the problem is , why the ink dried up so fast when i was not using it for two weeks.? when i asked the printer seller they told me that i have to print out at least 1 pc a day to keep the printer going. I am totally not happy with the product. why should i need to print it daily for no reason? please engage me with a reasonable answer or else this will be my last purchase of your product. thank you

Inkjets have always had varied results for service life. Yes, they are very sensitive to not being used. They will dry up from exposure to air. This is just an inherent problem, that is not specific to HP. It can happen with any inkjet printer.

But with the cost of laser printers, you can purchase a personal laser printer, for slightly more then a really good inkjet.
Lasers do not suffer drying out from exposure to air.

You can buy a personal laser for around $100. The quality is a lot better then inkjets, and the print on the page will not suffer age deterioration (fading) as bad as an inkjet.
If you need to do color, here is another area where lasers have dropped in price. You can get a really nice color laser for around $250.

Yes, the toners are more expensive, but cost per page to print is actually lower. And you will find that laser toners do last a lot longer.

Repair lexmark printer x1270

Unfortunately if you don't use a ink jet on a regular basis the ink dries up in the print head and in most cases will not work again even if you soak the head in alcohol overnight. I have found that Lexmarks are the biggest printers with this problem. Note: a replacement head will likely cost more than a new printer so this time get a HP printer mainly because when you change the ink cartridge you are also changing the print jets, the ink is a bit more money but in your usage of printers it may be your best bet.

HP Officejet 6500A - frequent print head clogs

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent ink drying out and blocking the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer than replace the print head.

Check ink cartridge on right

Yes - if they are not used they will dry up and be unusable.
Unfortunate but you need to replace them.
For future ref - IF they will not be used in 4 - 6 months
pop them out and put scotch tape on the head where ink comes out
and that should keep them good for several months..
I have done that and close to a year later - was fine.
Hope this helps :)

My printer has not been used in a few years and it is not printing you think the ink is dried out? If I only purchase the black ink....will it work?

ink drys out quickly and yes years means its dry.
no you can't just buy a black and make it work. lexmark requires working color and black if the printer prints for both. kinda an unfortunate thing. honestly i suggest getting a kodak printer. tons better than a lexmark and the print is the cost of your 2 ink carts. also the ink for kodak is ~30$ usd total for both black and color not just one of them.

Printing problems

If you don't use the printer often it is possible that the ink gets dried inside the cartridge, hence you get the print out with low quality or blurred. We suggest you to use original HP cartridges and keep using the cartridges frequently.
Thank you for using Fixya.
