If you have the new kinect xbox 360 dashboard and you cannot get your xbox 360 console to read your game discs or DVDs, you are not alone. An update that was recently applied through Xbox Live makes your discs unreadable. Remove the update by navigating to: System Settings->Memory->STOP HERE! You should see your Hard Drive highlighted, if not move to it and then enter this on your controller: X,LB,RB,X,LB,RB,X Delete System Update will appear, make sure there is no media in your disc drive and select YES. You system will restart and appear to hang DO NOT TURN IT OFF OR MESS WITH IT! After a couple minutes your system will start and you should be able to play discs again.
Check first to make sure there are not Two (2) disks in the tray. The disk may not be seated completely in the tray. The disk may be upside down. Try a different disk. If it plays properly, the disk in question is probably bad
If you don't have the tools to open your 360 go to best buy or an office supply store and get a can of compressed air and blow the dust out of the dvd drive. If that doesn't work then the lens needs to be cleaned with a q-tip and alcohol. This has worked for me on numerous occasions.
sounds like the laser's stuffed. the lasers in those machines are notoriously bad. you'd best be careful. a dodgy laser will cause laser-burn to the discs. i had the same thing on my machine. i could play a couple of games, then there was some that would work after i took them out and put them in, several times. after fixing the laser, ive not had the problem again.
there is a little wheel type thing that the cd sits on when it goes into the drive, the wheel makes the cd spin, these often wear out , after you play it for 27 mins the device heats up which causes it to slip , which would most likely be the noise that you can hear , it wont cost you much at all to get this fixed at a game console service store, if your sure the cd is still spinning after 27 mins , and making the noise , it is the laser cog slipping , in this case it is best to replace the whole laser section, which is one part , and if your handy at things like that i suggest you just go and buy the laser reader from a game console repair store , and swap it over your self , it is pritty simple to do ,
your only hope is to phone ms, the exact same thing happened to me a few days after getting halo3, it was taken away last tuesday, they said i should have it back in 20 days or less
