02 Mitsubishi Diamante Infinity stereo/cd player gives error code E 01 when a cd is put in. It acts like it wants to play, it used to play a little before error code. now just displays error then ejects disk.

It can be dirty or faulty disk,but if that's not the case the problem relates to cd player lens.Its not reading the disk.The inside lens which reads and detects the cd is either got dirty or its faulty and unit has to be replaced.-------So whether is dirty lens or faulty that can be confirmed once the unit is inspected.Try running lens cleaning cd in your cd player unit and see if that is helping.========For more help i suggest refer the help links mentioned below:------

The CD, when inserted, became either wedged or not seated properly and the sensors dont know how to respond. Here are the codes for Kenwood.
Changer Error Codes
• E-00: Poor Cable connection.
• E-01: Magazine not properly set in changer.
• E-02: No Disc in magazine.
• E-03: CD does not have selected track number.
• E-04: Disc is dirty, upside down or unreadable.
• E-10: No data is recorded on the MD. The player plays the next disc automatically.
• E-99: Changer malfunction, disc may be caught in machine or changer requires service.

If you have a steady hand... carfully unscrew and open up the unit just far enough so you can either pull, or nudge the CD tray enough for the CD to be seated in the tray properly...

Hello, welcome to FixYa...your descripton indicates it's a heated 02 sensor that is setting the code...why would you not replace the correct one the first time if in fact it really does need to be repalced? ---80% of the time an 02 sensor code is set there is nothing wrong with the sensor itself, the sensor is doing it's job, it has detected a malfunction and reported it to the ECM, the ECM turned the service light on, that is what sensors do, that is how they work. I have seen motorist spend over $700 dollars on sensors and still have the same problem. On average the life of an 02 sensors is 60-80k. A good technician will know if a sensor is bad from the voltage it's drawing. You could have a dirty fuel injector or MAF sensor resulting in a rich or lean fuel mixture that caused the 02 code to be set. I hope you understand by this explanation, that even by replacing the $380 sensor there is no gurantee the problem has be repaired. A good diagnostic scan and someone that knows how to read the feedback from that scan could give you a clear cut decisive repair procedure.

replace the stereo its not worth fixing

Error 01 is normally on most machines to say it cannot read the discs. Could be dirty laser or a defective one. Must open to make better diagnosis.

We have the same problem with ours the codes are in the owners manual however they tell you to take it to the dealership and that was $50 for them to look at it and $1500 for a whole new stereo. Hope this helps.

It could be a compatibility issue w/ the media you are using. To that end, ...

(01) Do you get this error msg. w/ original DVDs?

(02) Or are you trying to play DVDs created at home?

If your answer is YES to (01), then it is unlikely the issue is media incompatibility.

If the answer is YES to (02) (and NO to (01)), try using DVD-R dvds (media) rather than DVD+R (DVD+R is a newer standard that older players do not recognize).

There is another FixYa post (similar issue) w/ one solution HERE. The expert suggests having the lense (on the DVD player) checked and possibly replaced.
