Car radios have security codes to prevent them from being stolen. If they lose power, such as when replacing the battery, they lock out. This makes them worthless to anyone trying to steal them. You need to have the unlock code to reactivate the radio. It is provided with the vehicle at purchase, or by the retailer when selling replacements
Check your fuses. If moisture or a power surge happen recently it's pretty common. NOTE have your radio code handy, you'll need that to get radio up and running.
Need more info - How old is battery? can you jump start? etc. If you can jump start it, take it to a local parts store like Autozone, Advance, etc and have them test your charging system and battery. Note if battery went dead, you're going to need your code to re-activate your factory radio.
This code should be in the glovebox on a small card the size of a credit card. if the code is not found you will need to remove the radio and get the serial # off the radio then go to dealer with the reg and id to prve ownership and they will give it to you, hope this helps.
most new BMW's the fuse block is located behind the glove box. There should be a pair of twist plastic fastners at the back of the glove box, twist and remove the plate and you should find the fuse box and fuse locater list.
Check the battery with a voltmeter. If it drops below 11v while the key is on or you are trying to start it the battery is faulty. You can also try connecting jumper cables (I would do so without the donor vehicle running), if the instruments & lights work while cables are connected your battery is the problem.
