To drain out water press the 'spin only' option, if it does not work drain out the water with a tube, ie, siphon it out of the tub.

Suspecting the water level switch is the first step since this device controls starting operations. There is also a possiblity that the water level pressure hose has come off the tub. Make sure this plastic line is attached before replacing the level switch.

SOURCE: Kenmore 90 series washing machine

Follow all jsrocks tests,
but Before replacing the pressure switch there are more tests of function
Blow any water out of the air tube, it should be empty when the washer is empty, water remaining in the tube messes up the pressure sensing(usually makes water level lower so doubt this is the fault)
Kenmore pressure switches are adjustable, the adjustment is hidden.
An internal spring stretches over time and does not react properly.
to test whether just the adjustment is required,

  1. remove the water level knob from the front side of console
  2. depress the lock tab at the right side of water level sensor body where it contacts the back side of the console and rotate counter clockwise 45degrees
  3. withdraw water level sensor body
  4. adjacent to shaft for the knob is 1/8inch bolt head, turn clockwise to raise, counter clockwise to lower water level.
  5. washer can be operated with the console open and the level body removed
  6. test, adjust, test adjust.
  7. if no effect replace water level sensor body

Easy fix. Do this: Remove the rubber tube coming from the bottom of the tub up to the water level switch right there at the switch itself. Blow through it to remove the sediment in the bottom of the tub so that air pressure from tub to switch will be kosher. Put the hose back on the water level switch tight and pump out any water in the machine.

My Maytag performa series LAT2500AAE fills to the medium level no matter which setting I use. It does NOT overflow.

If your infinite water level switch has a reset, perform this before changing the water level setting prior to your next load, this is usually done by rotating the knob to the reset zone, then back to your desired water level setting. If your problem still exists, you will most likely need the water level switch replaced Part# 22001776. Pleazer Appliance...

Water overflowing and wont go into wash mode

Behind the backsplash of the machine (where all the knobs and controls are) are several important mechanisms. One of them is a plunger, which detects the water level in the tub. When the water reaches the specified level, the plunger drops. This completes the circuit which kicks the cycle from fill to wash.
I suspect that this plunger is either dirty or broken.

Hope that helps.

Washer didnt fill when turned on, but filled when holding "reset"

sounds like your water level switch is bad OR the small hose that goes from the waterlevel switch to the bottom of the tank has a hole in it.Try replacing this small hose first.you can go to an auto parts store and match it up.it's usually about 3' long and about 1/4" inside diameter and about 99cents a foot.

I have a 4 year old Maytag Performa washing machine. Regardless

Hi!!! You seem to have a bad water level switch..If you turn on the water and water just fills in and doesn't stop then you have a bad water level switch..If you just turn it on and water enters then you have a bad water valve..Good luck..

Maytag Performa water level

Water-inlet valve A defect in the water-inlet valve may mean that it's no longer able to shut off completely when the electricity has been turned off to it. If this occurs, the valve may leak and drip water into the clothes tub. In time, the water may accumulate substantially. If this happens, you need to replace the valve.

Water-level switch A defect--or an obstruction--in the water-level switch may mean that it can't tell the water to shut off. So the machine overflows. This switch senses the water level in the clothes tub. It's usually a diaphragm device with a small, clear tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. As the water level in the tub increases, the pressure on the air in the tube increases. When the pressure reaches a certain level, it activates the switch, shuts off the water, and signals the timer to begin the agitate cycle. You can either clear any obstruction in the tube or replace the water-level switch.
