Cannot insert Tray 1 into the machine. it says to "Reset Tray 1 correctly". What are they saying.

This can also be caused when the upper cassette tray (for small paper stock / photo paper) becomes detached from the lower tray. There is a gear attached to the lower paper tray which handles movement of the upper paper tray. Make sure that moving this gear causes the upper paper tray to move. If it doesn't, then you need to snap the upper paper try on a little better.

1. Turn off printer.

2. Pull out paper tray and photo tray

3. Remove output duplexer (on back of printer)

4. Open input sheet feeder (on top of printer)

5. Open cartridge access door. (Basically lift up control panel and scanner section of the printer)

6. Turn on printer (Power button on now raised control panel)

7. Printer may display message "Performing printer alignment - Do not interrupt"

8. Wait for a few minutes until printer stops making all setup noises.

9. Close cartridge access door, close input sheet feeder, replace output duplexer, insert paper trays

10. Do a test print. All should be fine.

Remove the battery and keep aside for about 15 minutes. Now after inserting reset the camera., if the fault occurs., remove the tape and use a hair dryer to blow into the tape tray section/drum section.
It is possible that the dew sensor is working to indicate moisture, if so the heat will change the fault.
Also if the hall IC's within the drum is faulty the drum will not move and so will indicate a fault-- service.

Did you ever figure out a 'fix' for this? I am about to take a sledgehammer to this machine - the 'empty tray' message is preventing us from using it at all!

C0202= tray 1 elevator failure.
Open tray 1, check and make sure paper is loaded correctly.
With tray open, open and close front door. This will reset error code. With tray 1 open look to see if paper is stuck behind tray in back of machine, if so remove it ( this will block the lift motor for the tray).
Close tray 1, if you hear a popping noise the lift motor is damaged and will have to be replaced. Until it is replaced operate machine with tray 1 out to prevent error code.

A couple of things. Make sure you tell the machinne the size of paper, and also check to see that not only the size of the peper but the type of paper On the machine and the print driver match.
One of the most common issues with that message is that the machine will say Plain paper and the print driver says Bond or Recycled.
Now, if that is not the indication, what you want to do look on the right front side of the paper tray itself. There are small tabs, about 1/2 of an inch by less than a quarter inch. They insert into small holes in the tray. They often times break or just fall out on their own. You can just take a piece of tape, obviously not clear tape and cover the holes.
You could have a paper tray sensor that has fallen off. There are black actuators that hang down in the tray that actuate when the paper tray is inserted.

i think may be i can help, well rick there is no reset button on brother machines,..have you tried cleaning the paper feed roller? may be some thing did print and the paper is still crumbled up in the machine. try this. cut a file folder to 8x11 and manually force feed it through the paper path, there may some thing inside the machine that might be holding a sensor down. this is the first thingwe would do as a brother tech. good luck by the way clean the rollers with denatured alcahol

"Check paper size" means that the paper in the machine doesn't match the size selected in the setup.

To change the paper size:
1. Press the Function button.
2. Press the Data Registration button.
3. Press Set button.
4. Use up or down arrows until you see PRINTER SETTINGS.
5. Press Set button.
6. Use up or down arrows until you see PAPER SIZE.
7. Press Set button.
8. Use up or down arrows until you see type of paper in the paper tray (LTR, LGL, A4).
9. Press Set button.
10. Press Stop/Reset button.

Machine should now print out the fax that was received in memory.
