Corrupt Outlook Express 6 .DBX File

You might use following methods, short guide from Microsoft below and if your corruption is severe check this out Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Express

1) Identify all the .DBX files (folders) that you are going to restore but which do not exist yet on the new machine. This list of files would only include folders that you have created yourself and would not include folders like inbox, outbox, etc.
2) Start Outlook Express and create a new folder for each one you identified in (1).
3) For each new folder you have created you *must* highlight it - select it with your mouse as if you were going to see what is inside it. We know it is empty, but Outlook Express will not create the .dbx file until you do this. [Thanks to Ethan and "Biggles" separately for their input]
4) Close Outlook Express. Now you will see that your Outlook Express installation will have a .DBX file for every folder you are about to restore.
5) Now restore the .DBX files - that is you replace the empty dbx files created in 2 and 3 with the files from your backup.
6) If you restored from CD it may be that the read attribute on the files has been set. In this case you will need to ensure that the read attribute is cleared for each file you restored (right-click on the file and choose "Properties"). [Contributed by Aaron Kuhn]
7) If all is well, when you open Outlook Express now you will get all your restored messages.
If you receive a message in your message body window "cannot display folder, you may be out of memory or disk space" after restoring, then it is likely you missed step 6. Go back and ensure your DBX files are NOT set to Read-Only.

I have a compressed brian lara cricket 2007.iso.I extract it with ultraiso but after extract its setup does not work and its zip also not extracted.

If your .iso file is contained in a .zip file, you wouldn't use ultraiso to extract it. You would use a file compression utility to extract the files, such as WinRar or WinZip.

If you're actually trying to extract files form the .iso itself, I'm not sure you want to be. Since it's an .iso of a game, my guess is your goal is to play it; extract files from it wouldn't make sense.

An .iso file is basically a disc image; a copy of all the data that was found on a disc and can be put back on a disc. To use it you can either burn it back onto a disc or use it as a virtual disc.

To burn it back onto a disc, you'll need a blank disc with enough space for the disc image to be burnt to. You'll also need to use some type of disc burning software, such as Nero.

To use it as a virtual disc you have to use a disc drive emulator, such as Daemon Tools or Virtual Clonedrive. After you install the program you mount the disc image to the virtual drive; after that you use the virtual drive as if it had a real disc in it (you can autoplay, examine the files on the disc, etc).

Hope this helps!

Why cant I add music.....all suuported audio music files....the program is not recognizing any of my music files as "supported files." ?????

Best george litt

I found the following information on Individual Software's website. Apparently, music downloaded from the Internet, or bought online, for example using iTunes, may cause problems with SlideShow Expressions. I include a link for more reading; go to 'frequently asked questions':

Here is some of the info:

Why won't my music files work in Photo & Video Expressions? [SlideShow too, I guess]

Photo & Video Expressions is not compatible with audio files that have been protected by Digital Rights Management (DRM) functionality. Most audio files purchased online through Internet music retailers like iTunes, Urge, or Rhapsody are encrypted with some form of DRM. Similarly, audio files that have been extracted from a CD or DVD (the process known as "ripping") using certain media applications (iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc.) often have default settings that encrypt the files extracted.

There is no way to use DRM audio files purchased from online music retailers with Photo & Video Expressions. However, if you want to use music and audio files that you have extracted from your CD collection, then all you have to do is change the ripping setting in your media application before you extract the files to your computer.

Suggestions are given on how to change ripping settings in iTunes and Windows Media Player.

However, it is always good to contact the technical support team at You first have to register your product with them in order to get help, but this online assistance is free and worthwhile trying out.

Virtual device driver format in the registry is invalid

Windows XP instructions:
  1. Click Start->Run and type Regedit. Click OK
  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers
  3. Delete the VDD value
  4. Click Edit->New->Multi-String Value
  5. Name the value VDD, press Enter
Windows 2000 instructions:
With Windows 2000 you must use regedt32.exe instead of regedit.exe. The regular regedit will not allow you to add REG_MULTI_SZ's for some odd reason and a regular string value will not work in this instance.
Aside from that, the instructions are the same.
It also may be necessary to extract the original autoexec.nt and config.nt from your Windows CD, as they may be corrupted.
  1. Click Start->Run and type expand x:\I386\autoexec.nt_ %systemroot%\System32\autoexec.nt (Where x: is your CD-ROM drive)
  2. Click Start->Run and type expand x:\I386\config.nt_ %systemroot%\System32\config.nt
  3. Click Start->Run and type expand x:\I386\command.co_ %systemroot%\System32\
