Hey how's it going from what i can find the TV is a Hitachi C50-FD2000 - 50" Hi Definition Projection TV but for australia its call C50-FD3000 but they look the same. I had i guy look at it and he said that it was the red light going and said it would cost $2000 au. if you can tell me how to fix it or if it is worth it that would be great.

It is likely the projection lamp is weak, causing the picture to cycle on and off. Take the lamp out and examine the reflector. If it is dull and cloudy, it's time to replace the lamp. A new lamp will have a reflector that is shiny and looks like a mirror. Be sure to rate this solution. Thanks!

This can be caused by a few things. The red crt/picture tube is going bad, which it would have to be replaced, tube can cost anywhere around $195 and up, if it is available. Another problem can be a bad transistor or IC on the red crt circuit board. Either way it should be taken to a repair shop. The average cost for repair could be over $300.
