I originally purchased my Neptunes in Aug 2005 and had a Maytag repair person come out 3 times in 6 mos because of the imbalance. As a result, I was comped a new washer and still have had problems ie; it's taking off like a jet and the moldy/mildewy smell is now very offensive and getting worse everyday. I purchased the Affresh tabs and that has not helped. I keep the door open after I am done using the machine and still the smell is atrocious! Any help would be appreciated!
I have read that the imbalance/drum problem is a known problem and should be covered under warranty.
also, that the smell is also a known problem and can only be fixed by replacing the outer gasket. Which seems like a waste of time, as how long would it take for the new gasket to smell?

Maytag Appliances are ****!! Don't buy Maytag. Spent $2500.00 in 2005 on Maytag Neptune washer and dryer. They have been nothing but trouble. Washer has water running in tub constantly. Recall on ground and recall on footing. Dryer making loud noise when drying clothes.The Maytag man is dead and gone.

its better do a maintenance, or put it to wash without cloths, only water and clorox, and varsol with the max level (water)

run a cup of vinegar thru a wash cycle, put it in like soap. i have also seen people use scolding hot water in the dispenser to disolve the soap and softner build up.

have you tried just unpluging the unit from the wall and waiting for 1 min and repluging it into the wall, this usually resets any codes. if not I will be happy to research this for you, infact I am doing it now while we speak, you try the simple method first. and let me know how that goes. my name is joyce

This is an extremely annoying problem and a very effective solution is baking soda! You should place around 200 grams of baking soda into the empty drum and then run a full cycle hot or boil wash.
This is a very effective method of reducing and preventing mold in a w/machine. I would recommend you run this "maintenance" wash once per month to prevent further build up of mold in the machine.
You can purchase a replacement door ring if the mold is extremely stubborn. However the Baking Soda also has the effect of neutralising any residue and odour that may be associated with it.

Please advise me on any recalls and technical information involving error code 3E during a wash load, which appears related to be a faulty control panel. My machine is always shutting down each time it reaches the rinse cycle. Numerous consumers have been complaining about this same model at consumeraffairs.com. Replacement of the control panel is expensive at an average cost of 298 dollars and appears to be the corrective action for other consumers with error code 3E. Over current is not being detected at the motor. I'm disappointed with the quality of this washer considering I purchased it in 2005 for over 1,000 dollars. This problem has forced me to use a local laundry mat to wash my clothes. This error code is not listed in the User manual.

I purchased the same model in June of 2005 and have the exact same problems. Imbalance and a terrible odor. Called customer service twice and was told all the cleaning techniques as well as purchasing the affresh. Already spent too much on the affresh because nothing is helping to get rid of the odor. Sounds to me like Maytag should be taken to court for this model as well. We should be compensated for this. The odor is unbearable at times!
