Hi I have just replaced the top screen and outer casing on my niece's DS . She'd broken the hinge and badly twisted the ribbon cable , in the end it was green light on , bottom screen flash and nothing.
Now it turns on , both screens active but it does not respond to touch .
I can use the D pad and all the other buttons work .I have set up the WiFi . I have sound ....everything apart from touch.
Be great if you can help.
Oh yeah the Top Screens got a picture on it but I know it should be better as I 've seen my DS screen.Seems to be a bit grainey , slight colour defects.
Thanx for any help
My neice was 9 on 1st Aug and I was trying to fix it up for her birthday .I had to tell her yesterday it didn't work after I put it back together .She looked gutted she'd got GH on Tour and Indy for her b'day. First time I finished all I had was green light ,flsh and nothing.
So today I took the back off and made sure the T/S ribbon cable was
connected securely , checked the mic and wifi wires were where they should be. Then I started to rebuild but checked before completion that all was well by powering up and it did both screens came to life . Magic I thought so carried on rebuilding. Finished ! Powerup , yep . Name screen came up started to poke the keyboard on screen and got nothing .
So tomorrow I will unscrew the back and check the ribbon cable on B/S but after that just inspcet all the connections unless you know better ?

Re: Touchscreen does not rspond...
I am quoteing this from another user on here jetsetjim
on the top right hand side of the screen just under the front there are four or five contact pads this is where the touch screen get the info from the touch screen to the ds itself if you have taken the ds apart maybe the pads are slightly out of line this can be fixed by applying light pressure to the pads to make them stick down and get a proper contact

Yes its fixable but it depends on what has broken. There are two possibilities the small barrel hinge has broken, this is just a case of fitting a new one by opening the case, unscrew the light and gently pulling the top of the case away till you can change the barrel hinge. The other one is the case has broken and is not holding the barrel hinge, can bodge it with some glue sometimes but most often you need a new case.
Hi, it sounds like when the hinge has got damaged, so has the top screen ribbon on the left as its easily ripped. Would need a replacement case and top screen, can recommend here for both: www.console-spares.co.uk, hope this helps.
Hey, you need a new outer case and a new top screen. There is a ribbon that comes out of the top screen on the top case and connects to the bottom one. There is a very good chance that ribbon has torn off. So you need to replace the top screen and a new outer case with a new hinge. I would send it to Nintendo, I believe they offer a flat rate service for the Nintendo DS Lite.
Well theres no reset button and it is probably broken. SInce you replaced the outer casing the warrenty probably wont be in effect. What i would do is take it into future shop or where ever you bought it and ask for there advice or you colud phone an nintendo help line if there is one.
Hi, replacing the original nds upper screen is a fairly straight forward procedure, you need to remove the 4 x small plastic plugs located in the corners of upper screen, then remove the 4 x phillips screws, the top outer back part of the case will seperate and you can gain access to the screen. Firstly remove the small screw holding down the right hand pcboard to gain access to the ribbon connectors, release the larger flat connector by hinging the clip up, slide the ribbon out, underneath you will see a tiny connector, gently ease the small clip back towards the ribbon, prising a little each side at a time, remove the ribbon and then you can prise the screen from the case.
These guys sell the replacement screens www.ps2laser.co.uk prices are very competitive and offer next day delivery!
The only way you can repair this properly is to replace the casing with a new one... the hinge is a common problem and over 90% of my customers on the DS and DS Lite need a new case due to broken hinges. Once the plastic bit has broken then it will only get worse. The small bit that you say fell out was the actual hinge itself (a small black part with a silver end that twists and locks your console into place when open). Hope that helps!
