Dear friends!! i lost my serial number of logic express 7.2 that i used on my mac g4. years ago i used g3 with the logic platinum 4with the keys. and left a lot of midi files there. now i would like to import the old files in my new imac that has got logig pro 8, but it doesn't recognize the files

The 10 digit serial number on ALL G series Kirbys (G3, G4, G5, G6, Ultimate G, Diamond Edition and Sentria) is engraved into the aluminum on the side of the Kirby, right above where the cloth bag attaches to the machine. This serial number contains the EXACT manufacture date of the machine.
The first number in the serial number will be a 1, 2, 3 or 4 and pertains to the quarter of the year in which the machine was manufactured. The second and third number is the year of manufacture.
FOR EXAMPLE.... in the serial number 1071104984, the machine was manufactured in the first quarter of the year 2007.
The G4 models were manufactured from 1993-96.
My G4 80th Anniversary edition doesn't seem to fit this, however. It's 8941106700. I suspect it's got a replacement handle.
did you change the logic board by yourself?
I'm afraid that the trackpad-connector is not properly installed on the logicboard...
then it is not a software issue.. ibook trackpad AppleNova Forums
- but you can use separate mouse on USB:
Dude, if you have all the current updates for your OS and applications, then you got a logic board issue. Especially if you you keep seeing the spinning beach ball of death or the dreaded white screen of death.
The iBook G4 is the poster child for logic board defects, because it has to do with the way the circuit boards were flowed. Apple won't fix this for the iBook G4. You got to do a big class action lawsuit like they did with the iBook G3 before they will replace the logic board.
Best bet is to sell this thing on e-bay as a non-working unit and get you a better laptop.
to mount somthing in a mac is basicly cutting it on for use. ' For example if you instal a flash drive or an hard drive via an out side connection, The mac will mount it so you can use it.
This has always been a tedious problem to solve. The best advice I can give you is to use the law of halves, create an "Extensions Disabled" folder next to the "Extensions" folder. Move half of the extensions into this folder and restart. If that helped put half of them back, if it didn't help, remove half the remaining active ones. By repeating this process you can rather quickly ascertain which is the problem extension with just a few restarts. Say you have 120, then 60, then 30, then 15, then 8, then 4, then 2, then solved. From this example you could deduce the exact culprit from 120 possibles with just eight restarts.
Make sure the ribbon flex cable is not severed. If you can boot the machine off of the os discs ( cds ), choose system profiler and verify if the system sees the hard disc. If I understand the issue, a new IDE hard drive has been installed? It may be possible that the IDE controller on the logic board has failed, if that IS the case. Also, you can boot the machine in SINGLE USER MODE ( hold down the APPLE and S key) when the machine chimes, and you will forwarded passed open firmware, passed kernel and it should give you a UNIX readout of the hard drive state. If not, type fsck -f, and there you will find the truth. Hard drives have a 4 year life, ( average expectancy ) and reformatting it may even harm the drive. FOr a machine that is 7 years out and slower than most current cellphones, you may be putting more time and effort into it than worth, and believe me, I'm one to not toss out something until it just cant budge anymore.
