I worked for a tool rental company while attending college and learned a great deal about engine /compressor combinations. AOSmith compressors used mainly ford engines to power their reed valve compressor head. The mechanic would use off the shelf carbs from local auto parts store. I would recommend that you remove the carb looking for an id tag or numbers stamped on the carb body to cross refrence it for rebuild kit or just exchange. The carb will not be for a 460 engine however. Since 1/2 of the engine is used for pumping air, the carb will be for an engine of lower displacement. We also rented a brand called Lindsay that used a Chrysler eight cylinder engine with their own design of reed valve head. These compressors would work pretty well untill the reeds started leaking, causing the engine to labor. Easy test, with engine off apply compressed air to discharge port (100psi), with cover removed from compressor head, listen for air escaping past reeds. Repair as needed.

Clean your cab out

May need a carb rebuilt kit
Go into any parts store and tell them you need a carb rebuilt kit and make sure to know your model number. I don't see it listed anywhere in your question.

you may have a vaccume leak try spraying some carb cleaner around the carbs and intake ports while running and see if that changes the idle speed or allows it to idle for a second, otherwise it still sounds like a carb problem please rate

Hi, it's easy to get the choke linkage bound up at the fast idle cam. If that's not it, i would check the choke adjustment by pulling off the cover to see if the bi-metal coil is pushing against the butterfly link. What model carb do you have?

Hello raising the needle would help but depending on how long the bike has been in around.
check for intake leaks at the carb joints that connect the carbs to the head.start the bike let it warm up and use WD40spray around the carb joints if the rpm's change you have a leak and recommend replacing carb joints and gaskets while your doing that clean or have the carbs cleaned or rebuilt

1980 F100 with a straight 6 cyl. Won't idle.

The vacuum comes from the intake manifold and ported vacuum comes from the carb above the throttle plate. You might have a leak at the carb gasket or intake manifold gasket. Spray some car cleaner or WD40 around the gaskets and vacuum lines while the engine is running and when you hear the idle speed up, you've found the leak. You will need to install the rebuilt carb first, and you should tighten any loose intake manifold bolts. Don't overtighten them. Also check the EGR valve because it could cause the engine to stall at idle. A good tune up might be needed too. I've seen some of those engines run real rough when the ignition timing was off.

My 1980 Vespa P125X motorscooter is real sluggish it will rev up with the clutch in, but is real weak on moving. I have rebuilt the carb and it hasn't helped. I would really appreciate some suggestions

small cc and that age is normal for the engine to require new piston rings and/or piston to restore power. i used to do it every few years when i lived in europe

Rebuilt carbs-starts and idles but wont rev up without choke on

sounds like the main jets are partly pluged, you must remve all brass jets and seats including needle jet and its slide soak in carb cleaner and blow out with compressed air only.. hold up to bright light to verify if all are clean. jim

Runs rough, leaking gas from carb when off craftsman tiller

Needs a carb kit. Go to any small engine repair shop or to a sears outlet store that has a good craftsman parts section. They will sell you a carb kit for around $20 bucks.
Your carb most likely needs a new needle valve and the float adjusted. There is a good chance that there is **** in the bowl as well. These carbs are easily rebuilt and it should only take you about 1 hour to put a new kit in it. Everything you need will be in the kit. If you need further assistance. Go into google and search for tech information for that carb. The name will be on the bowl or on the side of the carb body.
I hope this helps
