Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to lens error problems can only be corrected by professional repair. i had the same problem,in service somebody told me its sand in-i paid 140$ for clean it up -steel don't work well,now its noisy,battery cover is loose(opening every time when i trying shoot)-im so stupid:))) never bother fixing anything.....
I purchased new FE-230 this year and I keep it in a case. The battery is fully charged and when turned on the lense opens and closes several times then turns off. I have manually held the lense open and then turn camera off and back on. It will sometimes operate correctly for several days then do the same thing happens again.
