There are two types of receivers. Double-DIN and single-DIN. Double-DIN is easy to see as it is DOUBLE the SINGLE-DIN's height. If your vechile is a single-DIN it will only be about 3-4 inches tall, while the DOUBLE-DIN is doulbe that 6-8inches tall.

If you have a DOUBLE-DIN in your car and are installing a SINGLE-DIN you will need a housing.

If you have a SINGLE-DIN in the vechile you will not be able to install a DOUBLE-DIN without heavy moddification and cutting.

If the stereo you buy is not a model that fits correctly in the radio mount , then you will need to buy a stereo kit to modify the housing to fit correctly.

Im tying to remove the stock radio to replace it with 1 i have bought

there are instructional videos on eBay.com, crutchfield.com, and on youtube.com. you will have to click around and do some searching but they are there. if your new radio is not factory, then you will need some adapters to connect it to your car's wiring harness, and possibly some mechanical adapters to make it fit in the old stereo's dash recess.

if you look in the yellow pages you can find car stereo shops where they do this for a living. they have all the adapters in stock and though they want to sell you a stereo, they will install yours also, for a fee. if you have never done this before, you are better off to pay someone. i have done maybe fifty in my life and i gladly pay someone else 75 bucks to do it now.

Can I install a Pioneer Avic Z1 into a 2002 gmc jimmy?if so is there a dash kit and wiring harness available?

Yes, that is the best way to go. Most local automotive stereo stores sell an installation kit that has a surround that the new stereo mounts in to and fits the space of the stock stereo, and also comes with a wiring harness that wires the new stereo to a plug that fits tthe car's stock radio connector.

Install dual xd1222 into a 1993 dodge intrepid

The best way is to get a stereo installation kit designed for your car. It will have the surround for the new stereo to fit where the stock stereo fit. Also, it comes with a wiring harness that you connect the new stereo to then it plugs in to the stock radio plug. Most local automotive stereo stores should carry them.

I need to know which colour wire from the radio is for what, so i can fit a non standard stereo

My best advise is not to cut the stock wire harness plug. Go online or to your local best buy and buy a wiring harness that will plug into your stock plug and into the radio. then you don't need to know what any wires are. cutting the stock harness is opening a can of worms.

Replacing my stereo harness? or getting it to fit my aftermarket

should go to any local junkyard to get the stock harness, or you can decipher and splice each vehicle wire to the appropriate wire on the stereo. If it was me, i'd go the junkyard route, much easier in the long run.
