Sound card. Hi, I have a PC with a PCI TV card, nothing fancy, entry level one. When I try to update the drivers for the device as I recently had to format my machine, an error banner appears on the screen and says that I must upgrade my plug and play driver, I really have no clue what is going on here, I removed the card to try and get the on-board sound to work so that I can atleast paly music through that, I check the motherboard, it is using a SIS chipset, I went onto their website and downloaded what they led me to beleive are the right drivers for my chipset, but they don't work, the setup file starts running until I get the above mentioned error message, then it just ends the app. Please can someone shed some light on the situation for me. Thanks

Hey there

You are suspected with an error due to firmware incompatibility.

As You said you are dealing with an error saying that to upgrade ur Plug n Play Driver.

The BIOS want to convey you that the plug n play device driver are you using does not meet their compatibility. Because system BIOS stores plug n play information and has a list of plug n play device in it. So while upgrading the driver BIOS could not find this product anyway.

To fix the same you need to upgrade your BIOS, So that you would have more recent list of H/W and firmware products for ur BIOS.

Download the BIOS file by visiting to ur motherboard site (download "*.ROM" file). This will surely solve ur problem.

Gimme ur acknowledge by rating me

Thanx

IBM Desktop no sound after i tried to connect it to Television

check the connectiion cable and tv setting faults, if their is non then know your audio jack pin port is faulty. in case of the jack pin port fault you need to acquire pci audio card that you insert at the extesion slots or a usb audio card.

Hi can u pls. help me bec. i can't install my realtek ac'97 audio controller. error code 10. thanks ryan

Hi Ryan,

Thanks for using Fixya.

Here's a link to Microsoft's error code chart.

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/prjk_dec_lgsc.asp

Although MS recommends re-installing driver, that does not always work. Error code can also be caused by a device (IRQ) conflict. Have you added any PCI cards to your PC?

First step is to install chipset and mobo drivers as recommended by nobus. If no help, follow oldgreyguy's recommendations.

a BIOS update should not be required.

I had exactly the same problem whilst trying to install a TV CARD with Nero 6 over Realtek AC97 on board sound card. I resolved by uninstalling Nero, sound card drivers and the TV card hardware, down loading the latest drivers for the sound card and TV card and loading in order, first sound card then TV card then Nero 6. Hope this helps. This took me a week to resolve so best of luck.

No audio device

Since your PCI driver is missing, and it does have something to do with it, no PCI device is read by the OS, so the problem will probably be solved by the supply of the correct PCI driver.
Without knowing your exact board, I can only give you this general advice.

Trying to install a video card for my nephew. Nothing fancy. He has an emachines w3650 and has an EVGA geforce9600gt card. The card is pci-e 2.0 512ddr3. When we put the card in his case and start up...

The reason may be the card is not in the correct slot. PCI-E means PCI Express which is the fastest card availble. Its the smallest white slot on the motherboard. If it is not working or there is no "2 inch long slot" then the motherboard is not setup to handle that type of card architecture. The next brand you would look for is one that says only PCI or AGP.

Please rate this solution.

to see the status of your devices go to device manager for more info.

right click on my computer icon>properties>hardware tab>device manager.

you can also uninstall, reinstall, and update device drivers here.
