PRO2096 Blank again 3mos after "repair" seemed to work

After trimming the ribbon cable as you had recommended, this seemed to fix the problem... but it's now 3 mos after I did the "repair" and the display has once again disappeared. (display back light still works.. just not LCD characters appearing) Any other suggestions?

I called Radio Shack Corporate (customer service) in Texas and stated I had a display problem with my 2055. The display lit up but displayed no data. I further stated that I had researched this problem and found it to be systemic in the unit itself with MANY others experiencing the very same problem. I was told they would have an area representative call me to discuss the problem. The very next day I got a call from my LOCAL Radio Shack store requesting I bring the unit in and that Radio Shack would repair or replace it at no charge to me. PROBLEM SOLVED!

Since the repair fixed it for 3 months and it appears to be doing the same thing, repeat the process but be sure to put anti-oxident solution (if Radio Shack does not have, try a real radio parts store in person or online) on the ends of the cable so the metal will not "rust" so soon.

1My Sony VGN-UX230P has many colored vertical lines in the right hand half of the screen. The left hand side is blank or white when I turn it on. Every now and then it will start up with a normal...

Gotcha... it MAY be a internal ribbon cable to your screen is loose (or not seated 100%) OR sometimes a cable one conductor inside the cable breaks and acts like a switch ~ providing a OK display sometimes ~ or not.

A PC repair shop will take a quick look for you for X-Bux and IF it is a loose connector/ribbon cable they MAY be able to fix it for you on the spot... A decent camera repair shop may be a answer for you too? They are very familiar with tiny screws and display repairs. Be careful though and don't spend too much...

I would not recommend you open it yourself because sometimes things go "boing" and tiny things go flying.

I purchased a Motorola (BOOST) i856, back in December of 2009 about 2 1/2 months ago the screen went blank. Ican no longer use this phone and would like to get it fixed or get a new one.The phone wasnt...

I have the i856w, with the same problem. It is a manufacturer defect. From sliding the screen up and down, the ribbon cable for the screen has a bald spot on it from rubbing against the frame of the phone, where it passes thru to connect to the main circuit board. A new ribbon cable would fix the problem and get your screen working again, however, the sharp edge of the fram would only rub away the new cable and you would be back in the same boat again with a blank screen. Maybe if you wrapped a small piece of electrical tape over the edge of the frame it would help with extending the life of the ribbon cable. Hope this answer reached you in time and helped you with possibly saving your phone, if you still have it that is.

The monitor comes on to desktop then goes blank, and flashes, if I tap or tilt the monitor it will come back , but then go blank again

You have a bad connection on the signal input to the screen.

This is probably the input socket on the monitor, but try a different cable first. If that does not help then it is the socket on the monitor.

You will need to disassemble the monitor to check solder joints on the video in socket.

If you are not comfortable with that process then it has to be a repair centre.

I may be able to offer further advice if you want to tackle it youself.

I have a Sony DCR-HC17E. Suddenly LCD screen went blank... What can it be?? can isolve the problem without going to sony?

Most likely, you can not, ribbon cable connecting LCD assembly to main board is broken and it comes as hinge assembly. So, you will have to buy at list the part from sony.

Blank top screen

This is one of those things that I regret to say but the only way to repair this would be to order a new Flex cable. the flex cable is a small flat ribbon cable that connects the bottom half with the top half. It would be easer to replace the entire thing instead of just the ribbon cable

Blank display

You seem to have a issue with the Flex Ribbon Inside. The Display has a Flex ribbon that connects to the keypad area. there seems to be a fault with that ribbon. this is common problem with **** shell phones/ Slider phones.. best solution would be to take it to a repair shop. unless you have warranty.

Dark screen- No images- some shadows horizontally

If you get a blank LCD, dimly lightened by a whitish back light, then the LCD display eis either faulty, badly connected, or the ribbon connector to LCD is defective.
The camera must be taken apart, ribbon cable tested, and eventually replaced and adjusted.
If all contacts on ribbon cable return continuity (cable is fine), then LCD is faulty, and must be replaced.
Althought the job is not too difficult, an user without experience may damage the camera in attempting this repair.
My first suggestion is always taking the unit to a camera shop.

Display screen is blank

I followed the advice given by standers420 and CAREFULLY pulled the locking pins on the ribbon connector to remove the end of the ribbon cable from the board. I trimmed 1mm-2mm off the end of the cable cleaned the connectors and re-inserted the cable/locked the pins back into place. Worked like a charm! Many thanks!

LCD Screen goes blank after opening up

I actually have several of these cameras and have seen this happen many times with this model. The ribbon cable that goes from the body to the LCD tears in the same place in all of my experiences. If you look at the hing area, you can see the black coating on the ribbon cable between the body and the LCD. The top edge of this cable tears right where it enters the LCD component. If it works when only 1/2 way open, it's just a matter of time before it totally stops working...the damage has already begun. A replacement LCD runs >$100. Instead, I search e-bay for parts cameras. Just make sure that the description doesn't say that the LCD is bad.

Taking apart the camera isn't all that hard. Start with the e-bay parts camera just in case something goes wrong. Take off the lens cover (the lens actually stays attached to the camera for this entire fix) by removing a screw on the bottom, one just under the eye piece, one inside the LCD door area (near the top), and one inside the tape area...the one closest to the front of the lens. Then, the lens cover slides forward. Once you get it moving forward, extend the eye piece and the lens cover comes right out.

The 2nd step is to remove the LCD. The easiest fix is to remove the entire left side (LCD and SD flip cover). This is done by removing the 3 screws on the bottom (careful, 1 is smaller than the other 2), the screw in the battery area, a screw near the front of the lens, and 2 screws near the top (one above and 1 below the lens). Once the left side is free, tip it forward, exposing the 2 ribbon cables. The larger one is the LCD. Disconnect it by simply flipping the grey bar where the ribbon cable connects to the body up. The ribbon cable should come out with no effort. The other, smaller ribbon cable is the speaker and the "LCD is Open/Closed switch". Be careful with this one. Hold the white connector in place against the body (I apply pressure using a small, flat screwdriver). Pull the ribbon cable out of the holder at the body with your fingers (it should require only a moderate amount of force). If the white cable connector comes off with the cable, you're in trouble...the wires are extremely thin and difficult to get back in the right place...but it can be done.

Once you've removed the left side portion, do the same with the good LCD. Reconnect everything in the reverse order. I use a small needle nose pliers to put the small ribbon cable back into the connector. The larger one just slides in with little to no effort. Lock it in place by tipping the locking back back down. Once you've connected these 2 cables, you can carefully put a battery in and test that it works. If all goes well, remove the battery before continuing to put it back together again.

When you're done, put the parts camera back together again and keep it. You may need it for the lens assembly (I've had grease inside my lenses at times and the front lens can scratch easily, so a replacement is good to have around).

I've tried replacing just the ribbon cable, but getting it out of the LCD isn't worth the effort since finding a good cable usually means that you've also found a good LCD for the above proceedure.
