A flashing DE usually indicates a defrost problem on any unit, they don't flash indicating they are in defrost, soner or latter the problem will show. You could have an intermittant bi-metal or most likely it being a ge - a bad defrost heater. and there is always the possibility that it could be the board. It would have to be trouble shot properly

Where is the drain located on Frigidaire model r134a? is it the hole on the bottom freezer side?

R134A is not the model number. This is located inside the freezer on a white sticker on the left or right wall. Anyways, the drain is going to be located inside, behind the back wall of the freezer on the floor, directly below the Evaporator coils where all of the "cold" in your entire box is created. If you're referring to a refrigerator, there should be an aluminum tray/pan that all the defrost water drains down into. Sometimes they just freeze over & the hole becomes plugged w/ice. Hope this helps. Tips appreciated. Have a great weekend :)

My frost free fridge freezer is working but flashing de on the front. I'd like to know what it means

Error codes are brand (and often model) specific. "de" likely indicates something in the defrost process, especially on G.E. Check for ice build-up in the freezer cooling coil. The control board would be suspect, but must be checked to confirm the precise fault.

Siemens ka..n freezer problem

Look inside the back wall of the freezer to see if you have a layer of frost building. If yes this will indicate that the refrigerator is missing its defrost cycle. When you miss defrost it is usally number 1 the defrost control. Number 2 is the defrost heater has burned out and #3 the defrost thermostat. For you to look up the correct replacement parts you will need to find your refrigerators model number found most times inside the fresh food compartment. The back of the fridge is frozen and food is not getting cold anymore

Try this first:

Self Diagnostics

To enter Self Diagnostic mode, both temperature control panel displays must be illuminated. A display can be illuminated by pressing an adjacent temperature adjustment button. When both displays are illuminated, set the freezer and refrigerator temperature settings to 5. Simultaneously press and hold all

4 temperature adjustment buttons for approximately 3 seconds. A flashing 0 in the refrigerator and freezer displays will indicate that the refrigerator is in Self Diagnostic mode.

For temperature control panels with single-digit displays, the COLDER temperature adjustment button will increment the numbers up and the WARMER temperature adjustment button will increment the numbers down. Use the freezer temperature adjustment buttons to enter the test code number in the freezer display. Use the refrigerator temperature adjustment buttons to enter the test code number in the refrigerator display. When a test code has been entered, the displays will flash to confirm the test. Press the HOLD button for 3 seconds to begin the test.

For temperature control panels with 3-digit displays, the COLDER temperature adjustment button will increment the numbers down and the WARMER temperature adjustment button will increment the numbers up. Use the freezer temperature adjustment buttons to enter the test code number in the freezer display. Use the refrigerator temperature adjustment buttons to enter the test code number in

the refrigerator display. When a test code has been entered, the displays will flash to confirm the test

code. Press any button other than a temperature adjust button to begin the test.

When testing has been completed, do one of the following things:

• Enter code 1 5 to completely reset the system.

• Enter code 1 6 to exit diagnostic mode. The temperature control panel is reset automatically.

• Unplug the refrigerator for at least 10 seconds. Test mode will terminate when the refrigerator is plugged back in.
Test mode will terminate automatically after 15 minutes of inactivity.

You need to cycle your freezer display to indicate 0 and your refrigerator display to 7.

Control and Sensor System Self-Test (0 7)

This test checks all five thermistors located throughout the unit. Once the test is initiated, the test code (0 7) will stop flashing and the thermistor test results will appear on the freezer display in the test order listed below. The thermistor test sequence number will not be shown on the display.

If the unit is not equipped with the Quick Chill option, the third thermistor (quick chill) will display a 0 and 3 audible beeps will sound at the temperature control panel. This is not a failure if the unit is not equipped with the Quick Chill option.

Thermistor test results:

• P = Pass

• 0 = Failed

• S = Short to 5 VDC

• B = Bad amplifier

Thermistor test sequence is:

1. Fresh food top thermistor

2. Fresh food bottom thermistor

3. Quick chill thermistor (displays 0 if unit is not equipped with Quick Chill option)

4. Evaporator thermistor

5. Freezer thermistor

Note: Thermistor test results will be displayed in the sequence shown above. The thermistor test sequence number will not be shown on the display.

Note the failures if any. Should ANY of thermistors fail you must replace it.

Having said that... at this point your stick with doing a manual defrost by unplugging the unit and directing a fan into the compartment for just over 2 hours to make sure ALL of the ice on the coils and in the drains has melted. (Yes it makes a water mess!)

After the manual defrost restart the unit / plug it in and once the compressor starts listen for the evaporator fan when the door switch is actuated and the condenser fan in the bottom of the unit any time the compressor is running. If either of the fans are not running you must find out why. Can be a door switch, motor winding or power to the motor. The door switch does not affect the condenser fan.

Finally if the unit is not automatically defrosting due to a component failure... i.e

Heater, themistor, or wiring you will see ice build up again in 2 to 3 days again and you will have to keep going through the manual defrosting routine until the automatic defrosting problem is resolved.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

The "de" is flashing on my display. I know it

Try the reset procedure:--- Turn the fridge freezer off by the wall socket for 10 minutes. Then reconnect the power again and see.If that is not helping then ,DE is most likely indicating a defrost problem.. open the freezer and take a look at the back of the freezer wall - is there a bunch of frost on that back wall? If the ice is collected there then unplug the unit for 24 hours to manually defrost it or take a hair dryer and defrost all collected ice to defrost the ice quickly. There also could be a temperature problem due to a defrost failure, easy to check the freezer temperature to confirm.---------------- Thank you.

I have a TFX27F side by side GE refrgerator. It was running fine at my old house. I moved and then plugged it back in after several months of having the unit in storage. after 4 days the diagnostic thing...

that shows as a defrost problem, how old is this fridge?from what i see this is old, some parts are unavailable for it,if you send the full model number i can look up the parts for you,if this is an older machine open the fridge door, look down where the bottom hinge is and there should be a tag with the model number your missing a few letters after the F if not there look up on the top right hand wall or on the ceiling in the fridge section.then open the freezer, from the bottom up remove the second bin or draw from the bottom up,reach in and touch the back inside wall of the freezer, see if there's any frost or ice buildup on the might have to unplug the fridge, remove the food in freezer, remove the back inside wall, you'll see the evap coil,i think on this model the timer is on the bottom behind the kick panel,go here to see timer
with the fridge running stick a screw driver into the timer and turn the timer until it clicks, the fans and compressor will shut off,now with the timer in defrost and the back freezer wall off see if the heater comes on.also check the wire connector on the timer it could have moved while you moved the fridge,if the heater comes on you have a bad timer,if not change out the heater and defrost thermostat located on top of the evap coil.go here to see heater assy.
also while you're in there change out the defrost thermostat go here to see part
first before you do this make sure the coil is clean on the bottom and see if you see the timer down there, also open the freezer door, you should hear the fan blowing, usually it takes like 10 to 14 days for a defrost problem to show up but it says DE is a defrost issue, write back with the full model number but these parts should be the same, let me know if you found the timer and did the heater come on when you manually turn the timer to defrost.i'll be online for a little bit so if you're gonna check this out or you want help let me know.

Went into Kenmore Upright Freezer today to discover not running and some food already soft. I unplugged plug for 1 hour and plugged back in and the unit started and has been working for last 5 hours. What...

Defrost timer/control may be defective, compressor start device may be defective, or, if this unit has the digital display on front upper portion of door, then it is bad. Give us a model number so we can look at the unit you have. What ever the prob is/was, keep close eye on unit for the next few weeks, if it is one of the above mention problems it will occur again.

- fridge not working following defrost

There must be a model number on the unit somewhere. Look on the door jambs on the cabinet (not door) side of the open doors.

Most modern day freezers have automatic defrost systems built in. If your does not defrost, then we need to troubleshoot why.

Post your model number, and we can proceed, assuming you or someone you know, knows how to use a multimeter and read a schematic/wiring diagram, with my help.
