Water will not drain out. do not have a drain airGap. when opened dishwasher this afternoon still had water in the bottom of it. Emptied the dishes, closed the door, pushed cancel/drain. the green light came on and i could hear the dishwasher running but not hear the water draining out. Let it run the 2 minute cycle for cancel/drain opened the door and the water is still there.

Check to see if you have a plugged, kinked, drain hose or screen. Do you know how to disassemble the bottom of the diswasher to get access to the drain hose? Also, is the dishwasher drain and hose properly vented?
try cleaning your airgap. that's usually the problem when a dishwasher will not drain properly. if that doesn't do it, it's probably pump related. good luck :)
The E1 error is telling you that there is a leak in the dishwasher. After confirming that there is no leak, even directly under the dishwasher (remove the kickplate and use a flashlight.)
After ruling that out, your problem is almost certainly caused by the drain hose between your dishwasher and your drain. There MUST be a 30" rise in the drain hose between the DW and the drain. If the hose just lays there, causing a siphoning effect (law of physics) that WILL drain water out of the dishwasher into the drain as soon as a wash or rinse cycle begins (after 1 - 2 minutes after they begin. Then the E1 error will be displayed.
The BEST way to fix this problem is to install an AirGap valve (almost free @ any hardware store) in your counter/sink and then running the short pipe to your disposal or sing drain inlet. If that is not possible or for a quick and dirty repair until you can install the AirGap, tie the drain hose to the bottom of the counter top so the rise is created.
Good Luck!
check your airgap by the faucet of your sink. usually a metal cylinder is the cap. then you might have tabs to press in, or the top of the airgap can unscrew. usually i find stuff in there. mostly fishbones.. otherwise make sure the holes towards the bottem left of your dishwasher tub under your filters arnt clogged up. sometimes calcium gets in there a clogs those holes to the drain pump.
if no airgap then check that hole to the disposer. reach your finger in there towards where the dishwasher drain line is coming in and make sure that isnt clogged up.
take the air gap apart and clean it out. also clean hose from air gap to garbage disposal.. if the garbage disposal is new take it down and remove the plug where the drain hose from the air gap connects to it..
Make certain that the airgap is not plugged or obstructed at all. The airgap is the plastic thing that screws into the sink that the grey drain hose is connected to. I had an almond jammed into mine and it prevented the diswasher from draining properly. I took it out and cleaned it all out with a wire and then put everything back together. Problem solved after 10 minutes!!!
