Vertical lines (about 1 cm thick and 5 cm apart) have appeared on screen, more visible in the center and right side. The lines started off being very light, but of late have become more and more visible, showing vibgyor colours as well.
Found the documentation on my purchase online, and it appears I've had the foresight to apply for the 3-year warranty - which runs out July this year! Huzzah. Generally issues like your seeing comes from capacitor issues or incorrect voltages, I'd start by testing the various power supply rails for both correct voltage and make sure there is under .1 volt ripple (AC) as this is a sign of a bad cap. The correct DC voltages should be printed on the boards
The line should be visible, even with the television off. It is called "de-lamination" of the LCD panel, and occurs in lines, usually vertical, on the screen.
The panel does need to be replaced. You can contact Sony at 1800-222-SONY. They are good people, and should be able to help you.
I have same problem. Toshiba 42' hl196 purchased 4/07 line appeared 1 year and 9 months researched on Toshiba thread. Bad LCD screen. Repair cost more than tv-have to replace lcd screen. I didn't get the extended warranty. If still under warranty get hold of toshiba. Lot of people having same problem. Should get aclass action lawsuit started selling defective LCD screens. Try connecting an external monitor to the Dell Inspiron 9300 and see if the vertical line is also present on the monitor. If the monitor display is fine, then your laptop’s LCD display panel is defective. If the monitor also displays the vertical line, then your problem is with either the video card or motherboard located inside your laptop. Not sure if the Compaq Presario has an external monitor plug, but if it does the above procedure can be applied to that one as well.
