You will probably need to reinstall the driver for the modem. Do you still have the CD with the driver on it? Otherwise let me know what operating system you are running on your computer and I can find the driver for you.

I don't have the driver. My operating system is Windows 7

I'll see if I can find a driver for your modem online.

Wow, this is a tough modem to find answers for. This is the only website I have found that seems credible that has a download for your driver. Hope it works for you.

Fatal error on RCA Opal:
What do I do if I experience a Fatal Error? How Do I reset my Opal?
The Opal has a reset hole on the back of the unit in which a toothpick (non metallic) can be inserted to reboot the player. If this does not work, I suggest that you reformat the player by using the Windows format command on the unit. To reformat the memory:
Right click on the device within the Explorer or My Computer window
Select the format command (full format) to reformat the internal memory of the device.
Reinstall the firmware from http://download.rcaaudiovideo.com/downloads/opal_fwutility_v2.3.0.exe
