How do I unclog my shredder? The papers keep getting stuck in the teeth and the shredder keeps stopping. I've tried pulling it out with my hands but it's not working. Bummer!

Have you ever "oiled" the cutting blades...all cross-cut shredders should be oiled regularly otherwise they clog up with the paper and debris generated by the cutting of the paper...the oil helps feed this material on thro into the shredding bin.

How do we fix a Royal CrossCutter Paper Shredder that got a piece of chord stuck in it?

The continuous running tends to be that the sensor that detects that there is material still to be shredded is either dirty or has some paper stuck in front of it.

The shredder won't start and stop automatically. I need to turn it on and off each time I use it.

Most shredders have a small sensor on the top that keep it from running when there is something near the top, like fingers, to prevent injury. It is possible that over time, dust or small bits of paper are covering this, keeping it from operating properly. Unplug the shredder then wipe down the top with a slightly damp rag, checking near the feeder opening for anything that might be stuck there.
Also look on the bottom near the teeth and see if there is a contact switch that is dirty or not sitting down properly.

The shredder got jammed , a paper got stuck didn't go all the in. We tried to scrap out as much paper as we can . But it does not work at all

There should be a button to operate the shredder in the reverse direction to help unclog the blade. If the blades are bound up enough to stop the motor from turning, it will be necessary to take it apart to remove the obstruction.

The paper is stuck

Run the shredder in reverse for a few seconds then unplug the unti to pull the paper out from the top. Flip the head over on a table or desk and use a needlenose pliers to pull the paper away from the teeth. Once you can see that there is no paper shreds left, put the head back on the bin and plug it back in. Caution, KEEP ALL LOOSE CLOTHING AND FINGERS AWAY FROM THE OPENING!

Royal 85x paper shredder: The shredder will start to shred but stops shortly after "grabbing" the paper. In order to get it shredding again, I have to put the machine in reverse, remove the...

Sometimes spraying shredder oil on the cutting teeth wil work.

You should shred paper with a light weight machine oil poured on the paper to keep the cutting teeth working freely.

Good luck.

P.S. If this doesn't work then just take the head off and cleanj/lubricate any bearings you find.

The overload signal keeps appearing on the shredder. What does this mean and how can I fix it? Thank you.

The oveload signal means too much paper was being shredded and the machine jammed. Put the machine in reverse and see if the paper will "back-out" of the cutting teeth...if there is still paper sticking in the throat try to assist by pulling it out as you put it in reverse.

My shredder keeps running and won't stop in on/auto mode

UNPLUG THE SHREDDER.

If this model has electronic eyes (optics) to control the auto-start/stop function and you oil the cutters, chances are the optics are contaminated with shredder oil. Take a cotton swab with a little alchohol and clean and dry the optics.

If you removed the top cover, it is a possibility that you disconnected the wires from the PC Board.

Some shredders have optical sensors with a dark sensor LED on one side of the slot, and a clear transmitter LED on the other. You will most likely have to disassemble the shredder housing to clean them.
MAKE SURE TO UNPLUG THE UNIT.
Generally you will find screws on the underside of the shredder unit, with one screw covered by a "warranty void if broken" sticker. Remove these screws, separate the housing, and clean the optical sensor pair with windex or isopropyl rubbing alcohol. If your shredder has a CD slot, it may have its own sensor pair. Be sure to clean both pairs of sensors, as the CD sensors seem to be the ones that have the most trouble because of small aluminum debris.

How to fix a stuck shredder

Go to your local hardware store, and pick up a quart of 3 in 1 oil, shredder oil or some other light weight oil. (With the shredder in the off position or unplugged). Use a couple of ounces and Pour the oil over the paper that is jammed in the shredder. Use enough oil so it saturated the jammed paper. Wait about 10 - 15 minutes so the oil really soaks into the paper. Don't go crazy with the oil, and keep in mind what goes in, must come out. If you pour too much oil in the shredder, the exess oil will drip out. Don't worry about having oil in the shredder blade, this will help lubricated the teeth, and it will actually make your shredder blades last longer.

Now try to turn your shredder on after the oil has soaked into the paper for 10-15 minutes. Hopefully, the paper that is stuck has gotten softer, and then it should pass the paper. If it still doesnt work, then, try some more oil on the paper, and then wait and then turn the shredder to the forward, and then reverse mode, and then back and forth.

Hopefully your shredder will be unclogged by this time.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.

My shredder keeps running and won't stop in on/auto mode

Does the shredder have the electronic eye to sense paper? Sometimes dust will collect on the sensor causing it to keep running.
