I get the following message - "The scanner is currently in use. Please wait until your previous task is complete and then try scanning again." I have a HP Officejet 6500A. What causes this and how do I get rid of it so that I can scan another document?

My konica 7228 printer / scanner copier comes up with the following "please wait file initialising" when trying to scan?

Serial number currently shows as out on another transaction. do you want to continue? yes / no

say no because the serial number has been taken out of you inventory on previous scan. you can change the default in the settings

Can,t get scanner off all channels locked mode

Please try this!!
You may need a soft or hard reset. Here's some reading and instructions.
Please use this first!
resetting your scanner
1. Turn off your scanner, and then turn it on again.

2. Insert a pointed object into the reset hole on the back
of the scanner. Then, gently press and release the reset
button. Pressing reset does not clear the scanner's
working memory or the V-Scanner folders.

If this doesn't work here's step two! CAUTION. THIS WILL ERASE EVERYTHING, but it MAY Fix the Problem!!

Initializing your scanner clears all information stored in your
scanner's working memory. Initialize your scanner only when
you are sure it is not working properly. V-Scanner memory is
not affected when you initialize the scanner.

1. Turn off the scanner, and turn it on again. First, the DSP
boot version, and then Welcome To Digital Trunking appears.

2. Press 0. The following messages appear on the display:

System Tests

Select Test
Exits if no
Key Press

3. Press 1. The following messages appear on the display:

Factory Init
Erase Memory
ENTER if Yes
CL to EXIT

4. Press ENT. The following messages appear on the display:

Initializing
Clr Main Mem
V-Scan is OK
Please Wait

5. Do not turn off your scanner until the initialization is
complete. When the initialization is complete, M000 and
Bank 0 Ch 00 appear on the display.

The scanner creates a Raster Image and if it is grey or color, the size is big. After a few images are scanned, the 'buffer' inside the scanner is full. It may take more time to process the scanned image by the scanner if it is 24 bit color. The image is sent to the computer Harddisk and if the disk is full or if it had not been defragged for a long time, the sectors may not be contiguous for speedy writing, This will slow up the scanning. Ensure the disk has large space. 'Scan ahead' slows down scanning speed. (Without scan ahead, the next page is fed only after processing, whereas when selected, just after the previous page is scanned, the scanner start the next one)

Actually you do have to select a program for working with photographs such as Photoshop, or Adobe Elements, maybe Microsoft Paint or Picasa maybe. Then your scanner will scan and the pictures will be saved and they'll be opened in the photo program you have chosen afterwards.

remove your old scanner drivers and reinstall again after restarting the computer.

Are you getting the message from front panel of the printer or on the PC?

If from printer
check if printer can print test page by going to set up then go to printer status report
check if printer can make a copy as standalone
if not
power cycle the printer
if still unresolved
restore the printer to factory defaults by checking to set up>tools>restore factory defaults

If from the PC
restart pc
click on the black printer icon on your desktop
click on activate scan to pc
then try scanning again

if issue persist go to the link below
