Question about Danby Refrigerators

1 Answer

1) The fridge I now have is a "Beaumark" model no. 30590-730. I just received this fridge looks like it's 10 years old if not older. There was no light bulb inside the fridge compartment. I tried to insert the common 40-watt fridge bulb, but when it refused to go in...that's when I realized that there was a notice just below the light socket which says that "only a Danby 10 watt bulb no. 25314" can be used. Where can I purchase this type of bulb in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada? 2) Also, there are no instructions as to how to defrost this particular has frost panels at the back of the refrigerator compartment. The freezer box (separate door) has ice forming which obviously means that there has to be a defrosting process at some point. However, the control knob for the temperature setting is missing, so that I have no idea where I can find its replacement. Apparently, the same control knob regulates both freezer and fridge at the same time, since there are no other knobs anywhere else. 3) Do you know how I can contact a Beaumark expert by any chance to help with the other questions as written above? Thank You for any assistance you might be able to render. Jeine

Hi. You answered a question about a "sizzle" noise coming from the freezer of a GE Profile side-by-side. Your answer was "The sizzling in your case means that it is is just...

the defrost cycle happens 1-2 times in 24 hours usually, and lasts 20-30 which time the cooling process starts may or may not hear the sizzle during the 20-30 minutes.if the frezer-freezes and the fresh food section is cold enough its probably o.k.

Probably the condenser fan motor is going out they will often make noise for a long time before anyone notices. Get it looked at soon. overheating the compressor on that old of a fridge could spell trouble.

Electric light cover missing from new Beaumark fridge

Yes, but with a 25 watt bulb its only radiating heat while the door is open and its not that far a lens cover goes. i found no info on that either..

Beaumark fridge freezer is going on and off

Check the condensor coils for dust, try to see if the condensor fan is blowing air over the coil, check inside the freezer to assure the inside fan is circulating air, and if the "noise" is coming from either of the fan motors, they will need replaced by a service technician.

5 year old refrigerator stopped cooling

Sounds like your refridgerant compressor or the motor driving it has bit the dust.  I am assuming it does not kick on or you can't hear it running.  Call a local appliance repair to get a quote, but 9 times out of 10, it is cheaper to replace the fridge.  A motor and compressor can cost upwards of 300-600 bucks.  That is just from my knowledge and your model may be higher or lower.  Best to get an appliance guy to take a look.

Old fridge was tilted during move and then turned on immediately.

They started putting evap fans in refers in the '60s. Is this one frost free, or do you have to defrost it?

If it's frost free, 99.99% chance it has a fan.

And get ready for that ice to melt, slowly. Freezers should be between 0 and 10 degrees F, refer's at 40-45 degrees F (sorry, my mind is not doing the conversions to night. Too much wine.). At .5 C, ice will melt.

I am going to bet either a fan is not running, the condensor fan is not running, the condensor is plugged with 30-40 years of dust/dirt, and last but not least, slightly low on R-12 (yes, one of the bad guy refrigerants.).

Let me know what you find.

And if there is more of the model number than you have given, please do. I might be aboe to look at a breakdown for it, tell you if it has that fan.
