That is not unusual.
Several of my CD/DVD drives are listed as CD drives.
They still play and write DVDs.
The problem is cosmetic and not worth spending time on.
Now if you are trying to play a DVD movie you are going to need a CODEC (Coder/Decoder).
Windows XP does not include a CODEC to play DVD movies.
I use Intervideo WinDVD.
What OS are you using? In windows go to the Control Panel+ Performance Maintance+System(system properties) + Hardware+ Device Manager from the list select disk drive and select the one that you are trying to access and on the general tab make sure that the drive is enabled. NEXT In my computer right click on the drive and properties make sure auto play is selected for music. And then also if you have more than one CD/DVD drive you it can possible that the drive is set not to play video and music. The too you will find in the properties menu.
Imy burner will burn if I go into MY COMPUTER than into MY E drive but the auto burn will not work. I do have 1dvd click and ashampoo on the computer as well, but when I put a disc into the computer it will not automtically work. I was wondering if the above programs are stopping the auto play on it or what? The burner works fine if I go to the E drive and install o burn it that way, is there some kind of a setting or something that went out of wack??
You can use any XP home CD to reinstall windows you just won't have any of the customizations Acer did do it's installation. As long as you enter the product key on the Windows sticker on your system.
Hi,
set it up on a seperate IDE Channel, or change from master to slave. Or Vice-Versa.
Secondly you could try re-installing windows 2000, this should repair any corrupt or missing drivers.
Finally see the manufacturers website, to see if any firmware upgrades are available.
Hope This helps.
Mike @ Compurepair.
you can try uninstalling the drive, by going to my computer, right click>properties>hardware tab>device manager and look down the list for cd/dvd drives, click on '+' sign and right click on your drive make and select uninstal.
Restart pc and your drive will be reinstalled automatically again.
If you have a cd cleaner disc run that also.
Try to run the game again, although it may still not work as the drives laser seems to be out of line or simply run it's life, and a new drive is the only answer i'm afraid.
