I removed my SD card without turning the power off and now I can't read the card. Can the images be recovered?

Dont worry, a good SD card recovery program can help you. you can recover your images from SD card with asoftech photo recovery program.You can see

It tells the steps how to perform picture recovery.

If above does not work, you may have to format the memory card (use quick format), and then use above mentioned software to scan again the memory card and recover your files.

Have you tried it on your computer?
Insert this SD card to your computer and see whether it can be read functionally there. If it can be read functionally there, just copy off all your saved imaged to another card or hard drive and format it to see whether it can be fixed.
But, if it can not be read functionally there, you'd better use a SD card data recovery freeware that has ever successfully restored all the data of my friend off from his formatted SD card. It can deeply scan your SD card and retrieve all your needed images back, too.

Don't be so worried about ur data. There are some gud recovery software available on internet. But first of all please stop using d card anymore to increase d chances of recovering files. Then you need rely on professional photo recovery tool. Download the software from the following url http://www.memorycardrecovery.org/ and follow the following steps:
1. Install the software on ur computer.
2. Connect the memory card to computer.
3. select the drive(usually G or H for memory card) , click Start. Now the scanning process will start to search the deleted files. After a while you will then get a list of recoverable files.
4. Press Recover to perform full recovery.

You can try downloading a SD card recovery tool like: http://www.cardrecovery.com/
For future reference, its best to only pull out cards when the device is powered off, unless it has a feature to safely remove them.

Inserting an SD Memory Card(Optional)
All images and video clips taken by the camera can be stored in an SD (Secure
Digital) Memory Card. Even if the camera's power is OFF, the images saved in the
SD Memory Card are not erased. An SD Memory Card can be repeatedly read and
written. You may also expand the memory capacity up to 512MB so that you can
store additional images and video clips.
1. Make sure the camera is off.
2. Slide the battery/SD Memory Card cover in the direction of the [OPEN] arrow.
3. Insert an SD Memory Card :
The front side of the memory card (printed
arrow) should face towards the front side
of the camera.
If the card cannot be inserted, check the
orientation.
4. Close the battery/SD Memory Card cover.
To remove the SD Memory Card, make sure
the camera is off. Open the battery/SD Memory Card card cover. Press
lightly on the edge of the memory card and it will eject.
Note:
If the camera is powered-on without the card, the "NO CARD" message appears on
the LCD monitor.
To prevent valuable data from being accidentally
erased from an SD Memory Card you can slide the
write-protected tab (on the side of the SD Memory
Card) to "LOCK".
To save, edit or erase data on an SD Memory Card,
you must unlock the card.
MultiMedia Card (MMC) can not be used.

How to recover erased images from sd card
It is quite possible to recover the photos no matter deleted, formatted, lost or inaccessible from your sd card. All you need to do first is by trying SD card data recovery software tools.

I need to recover accidently erased image files from my sd card for my Canon S2-IS camera
First of all, do not save any new file to camera's memory card.

Take out memory card, and connect it to computer using a card reader. You should see memory card shown as a drive letter (like H:) in Windows Explorer.
Download this photo recovery software

Recovery mode
For those with the 4 GB model, try removing the SD card and powering completely off, without selecting any of the recovery options.  You will probably get prompted to recover when the device boots, click OK to recover - do not reinsert the SD card.  Perform a complete power off and power on cycle without the SD card.  If this works, reinsert the SD card and perform a power off/power on cycle.  If it prompts you to recover the system, the SD card is bad (the data can probably be read by the device after it has restarted, but will continue to cause the recovery mode).  Note that reformatting the card in the device does not seem to resolve the issue.  Try reformatting the card in a PC or digital camera (this option worked for me).
