This is usually caused by an oxidized or defective Audio/Video drum. You can try running a cleaning tape through the camera. If this does not solve the problem the camera will need to be serviced by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

Everio movie editing

First check sound settings on control panel, ensure volume is not at minimum and computer audio is not muted. Test playing a CD.

this is usually due to Media Player or whatever player you use on your pc, not having the right codecs to decompress sound from camera file.

Usually you sort it out upgrading media player, you can download update from links below.

  1. Windows Media Player 10
  2. Cumulative update for Windows Media Player 11 in Windows Vista

Vcr turns on and plays but the picture lines on screen

The camcorder has a problem in that the heads are probably not locked in frequency. This is not an uncommon problem with older units. There are some capacitors in the circuit that controls the head speed that are defective. This allows drift in the speed of turning which will result in an uneven signal. This is not a trivial repair but the parts cost is minimal (less than $10). Look for a repair shop that works on camcorders and get an estimate. When I get these units the total cost usually runs around $150 for parts and labor. Realize that even with experience, this is a 3-4 hour job.

Mode for playback of older 8mm tapes using Sony DCR-TRV730 ?

In 1990s Sony camcorder records movie in analog format so playing in digital camcorder like DCR-TRV730 doesn't mean it will be converted in digital format and you can not import file in PC for editing purpose. You will get analog signal while playing back old cassettes.

Regarding SP, LP speed, its decided at time of recording. Camera sens SP or LP automatically in playback and set itself accordingly.

If you want to convert old cassettes into digital format, connect our camcorder to DVD recorder and burn DVD which is digital format, copy DVD files in to PC and do desired editing.

How do I make a copy from a camcorder to a VCR ?

Connect audio and video outputs of the playing camcorder or the audio and video input of the recording VCR. Set the recording VCR to AUX or Line Input setting. On most JVC VCR’s we use channel 0 for AUX. (F1 or L1 will appear on the front panel). If you have another manufacturers VCR, please refer to that owners manual for the proper setting.

Video playback is not smooth while playing via USB 1.1

USB1.1 port can generally handle transfer speeds approaching 5.5Mbps between PC and DVD Camcorder. Smooth playback of movies requires 5.5Mbps speeds or above. If the PC you are using has some compatibility issues with the USB driver software, the USB port may drop to speeds below 5.5Mbps causing short pauses during video playback. It is recommended to copy the movie file from the DVD Camcorder to the hard disc drive (HDD) on your PC, then playback the movie from the hard drive.
