I am having this very problem with my 2003 Impala. Talked to a dealer and checked all fuses etc.. Said it was the A/C control module and would have to be replaced. Found one used for $75.

Pinpoint Test H: LFC 19 and 21/DTC B2293 - Restraint System Airbag Status
Normal Operation
The restraints control module (RCM) checks all of the front air bag circuits for faults. If the RCM detects one of the following faults on any of the front air bag circuits, it will store diagnostic trouble code (DTC) B2293 in memory and, depending on the fault, flash either lamp fault code (LFC) 19 or 21 (or higher priority code if one exists) on the air bag indicator.
Fault Conditions
The RCM monitors for the following fault conditions:
  • low resistance.
  • circuit open.
  • circuit short to voltage.
  • circuit short to ground.
Possible Causes
A driver air bag status fault can be caused by:
  • damaged wiring, terminals, or connectors.
  • a faulty clockspring.
  • a faulty driver air bag module.
  • RCM is faulted.
A passenger air bag status fault can be caused by:
  • damaged wiring, terminals, or connectors.
  • a faulty passenger air bag module.
  • RCM is faulted.

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The inflatable restraint side impact module-LF deployment loop consists of the inflatable restraint side impact module-LF, the inflatable restraint side impact module wiring harness, and the side impact module-LF high and low circuits. A shorting bar used within the side impact module-LF connector shorts together the side impact module-LF high and low circuits when the connector is disconnected. This helps to prevent unwanted deployment of the inflator module during servicing. During a side or frontal crash of sufficient force the inflatable restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) allows current to flow through the deployment loop in order to deploy the side impact module-LF. When the ignition is turned ON, the SDM performs continuous diagnostic tests on the deployment loops to check for proper circuit continuity and for shorts to ground or voltage. If a malfunction is detected, a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be stored in memory.

CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING THE DTC
Ignition 1 voltage is within the normal operating voltage range.

CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DTC
  • DTC B0040 will set when the side impact module-LF deployment loop resistance is less than 1.3 ohms for 500 milliseconds .
  • DTC B0041 will set when one of the following conditions occurs:
  • Side impact module-LF high circuit is less than 2.4 volts and the side impact module-LF deployment loop is more than 6 ohms for 500 milliseconds .
  • Side impact module-LF deployment loop resistance is more than 4.8 ohms for 500 milliseconds .
  • DTC B0045 will set when one of the following conditions occur:
  • Side impact module-LF high and/or low circuits is short to ground or short to voltage for 500 milliseconds .
  • Side impact module-LF high circuit is less than 2.4 volts and side impact module-LF deployment loop resistance is less than 6 ohms for 500 milliseconds .
ACTION TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SETS
The SDM commands the AIR BAG indicator ON via Class 2 serial data.

CONDITIONS FOR CLEARING THE DTC
  • The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists and the scan tool Clear DTCs function is used.
  • A history DTC will clear once 255 malfunction free ignition cycles have occurred.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
The following are possible causes of the malfunction:
  • A short between the side impact module-LF high and low circuits
  • An open or a high resistance in the side impact module-LF high or low circuits
  • A short to ground or a short to voltage in the side impact module-LF high or low circuits
  • The side impact module-LF connector
  • The SDM connector
  • A malfunctioning side impact module-LF

Need to remove heater A/C dash control , what is proper procedure?

Look at fig. 4 for the heater a/c dash control: HEATER CORE Altima REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
  1. Position the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position.
  2. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  3. Disconnect the negative (() battery cable; then, the positive (+) battery cable. NOTE: Wait for a least 3 minutes after disconnecting the battery cables for the charge in the air bag circuit to dissipate before working on the air bag module(s).
  4. Remove the driver's side SRS and steering wheel by removing or disconnecting the following:
    • Lower lid from the steering wheel and disconnect the driver's air bag module connector
    • Left and right side lids from the steering wheel
    • Special bolts from both side of the steering wheel using a tamper resistant Torx wrench (T50)
    • Air bag module and store it face up
    • Horn's electrical connector and remove the steering wheel nut
    • Steering wheel from the steering column using a suitable puller
  5. Remove the passenger's side SRS by removing or disconnecting the following:
    • Glove box door and the glove box
    • Front passenger's air bag module connector
    • 2 special bolts using a tamper resistant Torx wrench (T50)
    • 4 passenger's air bag-to-instrument panel nuts
    • Front passenger's air bag module and store it face up.
  6. Drain the cooling system into a clean container for reuse.
  7. Discharge and recover the air conditioning system refrigerant.
  8. Working in the engine compartment, disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core tubes.
  9. Remove the instrument panel by removing or disconnecting the following:
    • Kick plate and dash side finisher on the driver's side
    • 2 lower panel-to-instrument panel screws and the lower panel on the driver's side
    • 2 lower reinforcement panel-to-instrument panel screws and the lower reinforcement panel
    • 6 steering column cover screws, the covers, the spiral cable and combination switch
    • 2 cluster lid "A" screws and the cluster lid "A"
    • 3 combination meter screws, disconnect the electrical harness connector and remove the combination meter
    • Switch panel
    • Instrument panel lower covers
    • Snap out the transmission shifter finisher (boot)
    • 4 cluster lid "C" screws and the cluster lid "C"
    • 4 audio and deck pocket-to-instrument panel screws and the audio and deck pocket
    • 5 center console screws and the center console
    • 2 center instrument panel screws and the center panel
    • front defroster grilles
    • Front pillar garnish
    • Instrument panel 3 nuts/4 screws and the instrument panel

  15. Working in the engine compartment, connect the heater hoses to the heater core tubes.
  16. Install the passenger's side SRS by installing or connecting the following:
    • Front passenger's air bag module
    • 4 passenger's air bag-to-instrument panel nuts
    • 2 new special bolts and torque using a tamper resistant Torx wrench (T50) to 11-18 ft. lbs. (15-25 Nm)
    • Front passenger's air bag module connector
    • Glove box door and the glove box
  17. Install the driver's side SRS and steering wheel by installing or connecting the following:
    • Steering wheel to the steering column
    • Steering wheel nut and torque the nut to 22-29 ft. lbs.
    • Horn's electrical connector
    • Air bag module
    • New special bolts to both sides of the steering wheel and torque the bolts using a tamper resistant Torx wrench (T50) to 11-18 ft. lbs. (15-25 Nm).
    • Both the left and right side lids to the steering wheel
    • Lower lid to the steering wheel and connect the driver's air bag module connector
  18. Refill the cooling system.
  19. Connect the positive (+) battery cable; then, the negative (() battery cable.
  20. Evacuate, charge and leak test the air conditioning system refrigerant.
  21. Operate the engine to normal operating temperatures; then, check the climate control operation and check for leaks.

Looking to replace heater core

Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, 1999-2005

Removal & Installation
  1. Disconnect and remove the negative battery.
    CAUTION After disconnecting the negative battery cable, wait 2 minutes for the driver-s/passenger-s air bag system capacitor to discharge before attempting to do any work around the steering column or instrument.
  2. Drain the cooling system into a clean container for reuse.
  3. Remove the instrument panel by performing the following procedure:
    1. Turn the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position.
    2. Remove the knee blocker from the instrument panel.
    3. Remove the steering column; do not remove the air bag module, the steering wheel or switches from the steering column.
    4. From under the driver-s side of the instrument panel, disconnect the following items:

      Instrument panel wiring harness connector from the 100-way wiring harness connector at the left side of the inner panel. Side window demister hose at the heater/air conditioning housing demister/defroster duct on the driver-s side.
    5. Remove the glove box.
    6. Reaching through the glove box opening, disconnect the following items:

      Two halves of the heater/air conditioning system vacuum harness connector. Instrument panel wiring harness connector from the heater/air conditioning system wiring harness connector. Instrument panel wiring harness connector from the passenger-s side air bag module wiring harness connector. Side window demister hose at the heater/air conditioning housing demister/defroster duct (passenger-s side). Two halves of the radio antenna coaxial cable connector. Two instrument panel wiring harness connectors from the passenger air bag ON/OFF switch wiring harness connector. Passenger-s side air bag ON/OFF switch wiring harness from the retainer clip on the plenum bracket that supports the heater/air conditioning housing just inboard of the fuse block module. Two lower passenger-s side air bag module bracket-to-dash panel nuts.
    7. Remove the upper cover from the instrument panel.
    8. Remove the 3 instrument panel-to-door hinge pillar screws.
    9. Remove the 4 upper instrument panel-to-dash nuts.
    10. Using an assistant, remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.
  4. If equipped with air conditioning, discharge and recover the air conditioning system refrigerant.
  5. Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the evaporator. Plug the refrigerant openings to prevent evaporation.
  6. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core tubes.
  7. Disconnect the heater/air conditioning system vacuum supply line connector from the T-fitting near the heater core tubes.
  8. In the engine compartment, remove the 5 heater/air conditioning housing-to-chassis nuts. If necessary, loosen the battery hold-downs and reposition the battery for access.
  9. Remove the cowl plenum drain tube from the heater/air conditioning housing stud; it-s located behind the cylinder head on the cowl.
  10. From the bottom of the heater/air conditioning housing, remove the floor duct.
  11. On the passenger side, remove the heater/air conditioning housing-to-plenum bracket screw.
  12. Pull the heater/air conditioning housing down far enough to clear the defrost/demist and fresh air ducts, then, rearward far enough to clear the mounting studs and the evaporator drain tube to clear the dash panel holes.
  13. Remove the heater/air conditioning housing assembly from the vehicle.
  14. Remove the heater/air conditioning housing upper case.
  15. Lift the heater core from the lower half of the heater/air conditioning housing.
To install:
  1. Assemble the heater core into the lower half of the heater/air conditioning housing.
  2. Install the heater/air conditioning housing upper case.
  3. Install the heater/air conditioning housing assembly to the vehicle.
  4. On the passenger-s side, install the heater/air conditioning housing-to-plenum bracket screw.
  5. At the bottom of the heater/air conditioning housing, install the floor duct.
  6. Install the cowl plenum drain tube to the heater/air conditioning housing stud; it-s located behind the cylinder head on the cowl.
  7. In the engine compartment, install the 5 heater/air conditioning housing-to-chassis nuts.
  8. Connect the heater/air conditioning system vacuum supply line connector to the T-fitting near the heater core tubes.
  9. Connect the heater hoses to the heater core tubes.
  10. Connect the refrigerant lines to the evaporator.
  11. If equipped with air conditioning, evacuate and charge the air conditioning system refrigerant.
  12. Install the instrument panel by performing the following procedure:
    1. Using an assistant, install the instrument panel to the vehicle.
    2. Install the 4 upper instrument panel-to-dash nuts.
    3. Install the 3 instrument panel-to-door hinge pillar screws.
    4. Install the upper cover to the instrument panel.
    5. Reaching through the glove box opening, connect the following items.

      Two lower passenger-s side air bag module bracket-to-dash panel nuts. Passenger-s side air bag ON/OFF switch wiring harness to the retainer clip on the plenum bracket that supports the heater/air conditioning housing just inboard of the fuse block module. Two instrument panel wiring harness connectors to the passenger air bag ON/OFF switch wiring harness connector. Two halves of the radio antenna coaxial cable connector. Side window demister hose at the heater/air conditioning housing demister/defroster duct (passenger-s side). Instrument panel wiring harness connector to the passenger-s side air bag module wiring harness connector. Instrument panel wiring harness connector to the heater/air conditioning system wiring harness connector. Two halves of the heater/air conditioning system vacuum harness connector.
    6. Install the glove box.
    7. Under the driver-s side of the instrument panel, connect the following items:

      Side window demister hose at the heater/air conditioning housing demister/defroster duct on the driver-s side. Instrument panel wiring harness connector to the 100-way wiring harness connector at the left side of the inner panel.
    8. Install the steering column.
    9. Install the knee blocker to the instrument panel.

  13. Connect and remove the negative battery.
  14. Refill the cooling system.
  15. Run the engine to normal operating temperatures; then, check the climate control operation and check for leaks.

Fuel trim bank one & two condition. JThe ECM

Usually it's an air leak in the intake and /or exhaust that throws fuel trim off.Bad/dirty injectors are the 2nd common cause.

1999 Towncar - Air suspension shocks in good condition and car rides level - no idicator light is on. The car just rides way too stiff. Even the slightest bump jolts the inside (rattles change in ash...

I will check the shop manual, but the module does control ride for stiffness, increased stiffness at higher speeds, etc. If the bags are inflated, then the module cintrols how much air to allow in or out based on inputs to the module. See if you can get one from a salvage yard form a cash for clunkers car.

A dealer can run a test for fault codes in the computer. Call and ask how much for just a scan for fault codes in the air suspension module.

Rear Air Suspension Control Module
A microprocessor controls the air suspension system. The microprocessor and its supporting hardware are contained in the rear air suspension control module. The rear air suspension control module responds to signals from various sensors in the vehicle to maintain the programmed ride height while the vehicle is either moving or stopped. The rear air suspension control module accomplishes this by opening and closing solenoid valves to control the amount of air in the air spring(s). The rear air suspension control module turns on the compressor by applying voltage through the compressor relay to inflate the air spring(s) and raise the vehicle. The rear air suspension control module opens the vent solenoid to lower the vehicle by releasing air from the air spring(s) in response to signal inputs from the air suspension height sensor(s).
Air Suspension Switch
sxg~us~en~file=ani_caut.gif~gen~ref.gif CAUTION: The air suspension switch must be turned to the OFF position when the vehicle is hoisted, jacked, towed, jump started, or raised off the ground, to avoid unnecessary operation of the system and possible damage to the air suspension system components.
The air suspension switch provides a signal to the rear air suspension control module in the ON position to activate the system to maintain the programmed vehicle height.
Air Compressor
NOTE: The compressor contains a thermal overload circuit breaker. The circuit breaker automatically resets after a cool down period and after being tripped by excessive compressor motor heat.
The air compressor assembly consists of the compressor pump, electric motor and vent solenoid (must be installed as an assembly).
Air Suspension Height Sensor
The air suspension height sensor sends signals to the air suspension control module. There are three possible conditions that the air suspension control module interprets from the signals of the air suspension height sensors. The conditions are trim height, below trim height, or above trim height.
Solenoid Valve, Air Spring
sxg~us~en~file=ani_caut.gif~gen~ref.gif WARNING: Never rotate an air spring solenoid valve to the release slot in the air spring end cap fitting until all pressurized air has escaped from the air spring to prevent vehicle damage or personal injury.
The air spring solenoid valve allows air to enter and exit the rear air springs during height adjustment operations. The air spring solenoid valve is electrically operated and controlled by the air suspension control module.
Steering Sensor
The steering sensor provides the steering rate and position to the air suspension control module to avoid overcompensation of the air suspension during turns.
Inspection and Verification
  1. Verify the customer concern.
  1. NOTE: If the door ajar indicator is illuminated, repair the door ajar indicator. For additional information, refer to Section 413-09 .
    Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.

  • Restricted suspension movement
  • Excessive vehicle load
  • Cut, severed or crimped air line(s)
  • Incorrectly mounted, damaged or disconnected height sensor
  • Damaged air spring(s)
  • Central junction box (CJB) Fuse:
    • 8 (10A)
    • 17 (10A)
  • Battery junction box (BJB) Fuse 12 (30A)
  • Loose or corroded connectors
  • Air suspension switch
  • Damaged air spring solenoid(s)


  1. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the NGS Tester menu. If NGS Tester does not communicate with the vehicle:
    • check that the program card is properly installed.
    • check the connections to the vehicle.
    • check the ignition switch position.
  1. If the NGS still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the New Generation STAR Tester manual.
  1. Carry out the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST. If NGS Tester responds with:
    • CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP. Refer to Section 418-00 .
    • NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for rear air suspension control module, go to Pinpoint Test A.
    • SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs and perform self-test diagnostics for the rear air suspension control module.
  1. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to Rear Air Suspension Control Module Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue diagnostics.
  1. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, proceed to Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics.
Rear Air Suspension Control Module Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index
NOTE: If rear air suspension control module C251 is disconnected before rear air suspension control module C250, DTCs C1830, C1770, C1790 and C1795 will be retrieved and must be cleared before an accurate list of continuous DTCs can be retrieved. The DTCs C1441 and C1442 will only be retrieved when running the electronic variable orifice (EVO) functional test on NGS Tester. The DTC C1897 will only be retrieved once per ignition switch cycle.

Module —Air Suspension Control Removal
sxg~us~en~file=ani_caut.gif~gen~ref.gif WARNING: Before performing maintenance on any air suspension components, disconnect the power to the system by turning off the air suspension switch located on the LH side of the luggage compartment to prevent vehicle damage or personal injury.
sxg~us~en~file=ani_caut.gif~gen~ref.gif CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result.
  1. Turn the air suspension switch off.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301).
  1. Pull out the lower instrument panel insulator.
    1. Remove the pushpins.
    1. Pull out the lower instrument panel insulator.
  1. Remove the lower instrument panel insulator.
    1. Disconnect the power point.
    1. Disconnect the courtesy lamp.
    1. Remove the lower instrument panel insulator.
  1. Remove the rear air suspension control module.
    1. Remove the screws.
    1. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
    1. Remove the rear air suspension control module.
Installation
  1. NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 mi) or more to relearn the strategy.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure.

syv~us~en~file=ani_caut.gif~gen~ref.gif WARNING: The backup power supply energy must be depleted before any air bag component service is performed. To deplete the backup power supply energy, disconnect the battery ground cable and wait three minutes.
NOTE: Repair is made by installing a new part only. If the new part does not correct the condition, install the original part and perform the diagnostic procedure again. If the vehicle was in a frontal collision and the air bag did not deploy, the air bag may not have been needed. Complete a diagnosis of the air bag system before installing a new driver side air bag module (043B13). Refer to Diagnosis and Testing in this section.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301). For additional information, refer to Section 414-01 .
  1. Remove the two driver air bag module retaining bolt access covers (one shown).
  1. Remove the steering wheel bottom cover to access the driver air bag module electrical connector.
  1. Disconnect the driver air bag module electrical connector.

    Remove the two driver air bag module retaining bolts (one shown) and discard.
  1. Remove the driver air bag module.
    1. Separate the driver air bag module from the steering wheel and disconnect the horn pad switch.
    1. Remove the driver air bag module.
